My 2004 C240 4-Matic Wagon could use a new fuel filter, and unsurprising, all the lines to the filter are falling apart.
I've attached a sample eBay photo below to illustrate the 4 lines. (I don't have any decent MB diagrams of them.) I have some questions first, as I don't want to touch these lines before having a plan, because they will fall apart.
Questions:
1) Are the blue lines replaceable without pulling the entire tank, which I hear is a nightmare in this model? Maybe slide them in on top of the tank without dropping the tank?
2) If not, can I just replace the decayed rubber ends at the fuel filter (circled in red) and clamp a new rubber line to the blue line?
3) The bend at the other end (circled in yellow) is totally corroded. Any advice on fixing it? I'm not sure if I should only fix the corroded spot, or should I replace the entire line, though I can't see it.
Thanks. I don't want to remove the fuel tank just to replace the entire blue fuel line, because it involves removing the axle, fender, etc.
Does anyone know if the blue line is metal or plastic? I'm going to need to replace the rubber end of the tube, but I'll need to cut off the ferrule connecting the rubber.
Sorry, but no. Unfortunately, I received no useful advice. I postponed until better weather, and because I had to clean and replace injectors, reset fuel pump circuit, etc.
The problem is still waiting for me to fix... or barring that, when the rusted metal or decaying rubber lines break.
I had a leak from a tiny rust hole at your yellow circle. I bought a longer fuel hose and clamped it above the hole.
I would use the polyamid plastic fuel lines and fiddle it above the tank
