Another tip on your camera settings.

Shoot at a higher resolution because I can see the detail loss due to the compression you're using right now. I know the D70 is a 6mp but you're only shooting at 1600x1200 (or you've resized the originals) which is about 2.0mp. It will allow you to do more in Photoshop without worrying about detail loss.

Keep up the good work!

thank you...thank you...

yea, I've already resized those. I've only set the resolution to 2240x1488 so I can take more pics on the 1gb compact flash. I should set it to max in the future.

Hey no problem Frank. I honestly don't think you need much more advice. Your compositions are good. Just get a copy of Photoshop and you'll be all set.

Here's more that I thought were good pictures you took. Just needed some brightening.

Ling, how did you enhance it in P-Shop? "Auto-Levels"? "Brighten"?

Phil, I manually adjust the levels because it offers you more flexibility. Auto-level leaves more to be desired. Brightness slider does too much and gives it a weird look most times. Just remember there are three triangles in the levels adjustment graph. The center one (midtones) is the one that I usually play with.

Secret!! Haha j/k. Just level adjustment and unsharp mask. Yes it'll help on a 2mp camera as well although you'll be limited to a certain amount of "destructive" edits, such as sharpening, before picture quality quickly deteriorates.

Franks car is hot. As they say..."pictures don't do justice". However, when you do your thing with photoshop, it really brings out the beauty of any image. Maybe you can share more tips such as your values within the unsharp mask: (i.e. amount, radius, threshold).

I can't give you a set number because each picture varies. Some values will work wonders for certain pics but will make others turn out crappy and artificial looking. If you have PS CS2, try using Smart Sharpen with values of 75-100%/0.2/lens blur to begin with. One thing I can't teach you is to know when to stop or apply more sharpening so play around with the values until you like the way it looks.

Remember any type of sharpening should be done after you have resized to your target size.
