the good and the bad...
the good: had the rotors and pads installed. did a light break in.
the bad: found out the lower control arm bushings are badly shot on driverside. pretty much done for on the passenger side as well. my intuition was right which I feared. LOL #%#@$%#$@^

you can physically look at it. it should not have any cracks or great openings.
edit: i guess that's per side, not per arm. LOL

Frank - why are you looking at replacing the complete arms & not just the bushes. Are your ball joints shot?

I remember the mechanic quoted me $260 to replace and install my rear control arm brushings for my integra, when i could just buy new control arms with new brushings in them for $100.

Yeah maybe Mike - In South Africa it is considerably cheaper to just pop a new set of bushes in at the dealer. Takes them about 1.5 hours. The bushes have been substantially reduced in price this end.

For 1.5 hours labor I would have let them do mine. The standard labor time here is to look in the book for the allotted time, then multiply it by 3 or 4.

OK - I get you guys - sounds like stealership is an accurate description. It really is an easy job with the right tools & a hoist. What the hell do these guys do with all the time.

the ball joints are fine, but this will probably become a DIY job with help from a few friends, so replacing the arms completely is a lot easier i guess. haha

Can you please find out if MBUSA reflect a new part number for the redesigned bushes. In South Africa they say the bushes have been redesigned but under the old part number??? I find this strange unless its a 2 digit suffix change.

Yes Mike, any increase in compliance in a vehicle will generally have an adverse effect on handling - The reason most American cars are bad handlers in the absolute sense. Benz did this for longevity, improved comfort & endless complaints about tyre noise transmission into the cabin - or at least this is what I've managed to ascertain - this is not their marketing hype - maybe the comfort part is. They have been very careful as to which bushings changed & made the steering more direct at the same time. People don't seem to have noticed any adverse effects on handling. You would probably need to do a side by side test to pick it up.
