Exclamation Starting problem

OK guys, HELP! My '02 c-coupe will not start this afternoon. Everything was fine this morning and when I went down for lunch it just cranks and doesn't even act like it is going to start. I called the dealer and they said that the security system could have gotten "confused" and to lock the car wait a few seconds, unlock the car and try to start it again. Well, that didn't work. Could the smartkey have gone bad? Will a bad smart key even activate the sytem? They are working on getting the car out of my garage and the ceilings are only 6'8", so this is turning out to be a grand day!! Does anyone have any suggestions of things I could check?

It has full power, it just cranks away. I would lean towward the fuel system at this point. Well, they got it out of the garage and it is on a flat-bed on the way to the dealer.

thats what i would say. maybe you have clogged injectors or a clogged fuel filter. i dont know if your car is manual but did u try jump starting it? I see you got it to the dealer so keep us posted on what the problem was.

My fuel pump went out on my 2001 C240, similar situation. They replaced everything under warranty. Fuel pump, some gaskets, a handfull of other small things.

If I remember correctly my total repair cost was something like $800-$1000, not cheap. However I suspect when doing warranty repairs they like to do a lot of extra work since I am not going to complain and they get paid anyways.

I got my car back this morning and the new fuel pump and the tow was a total of $624.00. They stuck me for $130 on the tow, but at least State Farm will reimburse me for that.

I'm just off warranty myself. Scary territory for these cars!

Though your bill doesn't sound too bad, especially for a dealership.

Scary is right, I am looking into some kind of extended warranty. I think that I did OK on the bill.

Strange. I thought that MB roadside assistance was for the life of the car. Shouldn't they therefore not have charged for the tow?

I did too, but they tagged it on my bill. I will get the $$$ back, but I will have to wait a few weeks.

Roadside assistance doesn't "pay" for anything outside of the warranty. It's there to help you in an emergency, but aside from running out of fuel or helping with a tire change, everything else they do for you out of warranty is on your nickel. The point of the lifetime feature is your ability to call them for help anytime, anywhere, and get someone who knows the car and can do something about the problem most of the time - but YOU are on the hook for the costs once the car is out of warranty. What, you thought they were going to pay for breakdown assistance forever?
