How exactly do you turn the fog lights on? I read the manual and it shows how to, but i tried it this morning but the knob for the headlights/foglights don't fully turn to left where the foglight indicators are.

Also, are the foglights also used as the active cornering lights? Please enlighten me.

Thanks.

turn the lights on, pull the knob out. one notch is front fogs, two notches is front and rear. fogs wont turn on if lights are on auto. you have to manually turn the knob and then pull out for the fogs.

I was puzzled by that same thing the night I brought my car home. Finally figured it out.

Funny

My MY03 manual on page 99 states pull out the exterior lamp switch to first stop for front fog lamps and pull out the exterior lamp switch to second stop for rear fog lamps. Could MB have made a change to the manual since MY03?

Yes the fog lamps are used as cornering lights when the vehicle is equipped with BIX and is NOT a SS version.

foglights are used for passive cornering lights. they turn on when you turn on your turn signal. from my understanding whatever side you use that fog will illuminate. left turn signal, left fog. they are not active cornering lights like the E-Class where they are from steering wheel inputs.

Thanks guys... I just didn't want to start pulling on the knob and end up breaking it

I will turn on the foglights when i get home tonight.

Off topic: it's been raining now for 4 days in Los Angeles, and man i miss cleaning my car.

I agree, it is more fun to drive in the rain now with the MB.

I was planning on going to the Rosebowl, but i'm taking the family to Disneyland that day.

BTW, did you guys know that there will also be a big car event at the rosebowl on that same weekend? i think it is sponsored by Toyota.

They are not active as in the fog light itself does not move (it just illuminates), but (at least according to the mannual) they are activated by steering wheel inputs. And when you are in reverse the opposite light illuminates.

ah, i see. i didnt know that. thats awesome! id like to put those on my car, but i doubt ill get the full funtionaity of them. other than a wider beam from my fogs. i knew they didnt move, but was under the impression it was just from turn signals not steering wheel inpuits. i really like the idea of when you put it in reverse the opposite lights illuminates.

i like the wider beam of the lights and want to put them on my coupe.

Fog Lights Problem

I have experiencing small problem with the fog lights. When i turn the lights on either in auto or in position three without lighting up the fog lights, when i turn the steering wheel to the right, the right fog light is turned on and after i turn the steering wheel to the left the right fog light is turned off and the left fog light is turned on. Does anyone knows what is the problem?? Is it the active cornering headlamp system?

Thanks

Let me did this post up a sec and ask a question. If I understand correctly, this "passive cornering" is only available with the HID lights on non SS right??

The reason I ask is because my wife always rides in auto-light mode....and she came home the other night, and I told her that her left fog was out. She was turning right into our driveway. Well a guy at work this morning, told her right was out but left was on. Then later she says another person told her that her left was out again, but right was on. If she goes to maunal mode, and pulls the knob, they both come on. Don't have the BIX package and it is a SS version.

I haven't had a chance to see if this happens when she turns. or if they still both come on in manual mode with your knob pull out a notch. I know I always use manual mode with the knob pulled out a notch, and last I checked, they were both working fine.

So my initial thought was that her knob as a short in it. But after reading these post...it sounds like it may be passive cornering but again..didn't think that was an option on my vehicle.

'05 and up models got the passive lighting function, from what I remember reading (regardless of SS or luxury model). But, another thing that I understand is that it's not available on every model here in the U.S. Either way, from what it sounds like, there is passive lighting function on her car.

btw, I know you're a veteran, but just had to give you props for bringing up an old post that could be helpful to others. (Good example for you newbies to follow)
