2005 C230 Sport Sedan
Chrome Trunk Handle

Hello everyone. This is my first post and our (my wife) first MB. Picked up a white 2005 C230 Sport Sedan with the black interior, Entertainment Package, Lighting Package, Sunroof Package, Premium Package, Split rear seat, Drivers memory. Anyway, I was looking for the Chrome Trunk Handle that attaches to the rear license plate. I drive a 2002 BMW 530i and I have one on my car. It really makes it easier to close the trunk and I knew that Mercedes had one but I haven't seen a picture of the chrome one. Does anyone know where I can buy one and how much it costs? I've searched some of the previous posts but couldn't find a picture. Thanks for you help and please don't flame me for driving a BMW. I actually really like my wife's C230...

$19 from MBUSA. I have one and think they're worth the money.

yeah, they've been in the 2003, 2004, & 2005 C-Class "Accessories" brochure.
Description reads:

" Made of stainless steel, this trunk handle gives an added touch of style, makes it easier to close the trunk lid, and reduces the possibility of scratching the finish on your C-Class."

FWIW, I have one also (I moved it from my ML). After installing on it on my C-class I noticed that there is a built in handle on the bottom edge of the trunk lid. To me that is easier to use than the chrome handle....

Doug,
I'll stop by the dealer today, and see if they've got one in stock. If so, I'll buy it and try it out on the Coupé. If it works, it's mine. If it doesn't, it will go the C320 Sedan.

I'll let you know how it fits, and take pics !

Don't tell me that Amdeutsch felt so bad about ripping you on missing my post that he removed his response? Who knew that he was that sensitive?

Sap - the only problem with the handle is that it takes up some of the thickness of the screws, so that you have less room for frames, etc. I had to remove my frame around my license, because between the thickness of my handle, the lower writing on the plate, and the frame, the screw wouldn't work.

Oh, and got mine powdercoated black; holds it really well, in case you don't want to have a big chrome thing sticking out from your car.

Posted some rear end pics (no comments!) on the "other" forum, under a thread called "tailight question" (yes, it should be taillights, but I replied anyway) which shows my tinted taillights, and you can see the handle as well underneath the license plate.

oh the handle goes below the license plate. why not just use the hangle already provided in the bottom sill of the trunk lid.

With that one, you have to reach inside, and slam the door down. With this thing, you can gently push down the door instead. It's a kindler, gentler approach. :p

Doug,
would have brought a pair up to the meet on Saturday, but when I stopped by the dealer, they had just closed the Parts Dept that morning for inventory. On my way up the 15, I could of stopped off at Escondido, but I was so into my SIRIUS that I just drove right past !

I'll try to get one this week, and see how it fits w/ and w/out license plate frame. I'll post pics too !

Thanks for the compliments. I'm really lovin' the look of the Coupy now, and it makes me drive faster, just because.

Carlos

mexico setting for UHI is the same menu as netherlands setting. in order to get the UHI to work, the setting needs to be set to Mexico w/ UHI. i will no longer have the netherlands setting but i will have UHI. can't have it all i guess.

hey im going to buy a new switch row. i want one with the UHI button below PTS. you want my switch row for one of your 320's? its an 8 button CLK switch row, w/ PTS and heated/vented seat buttons. let me know.

im never happy, the mods just keep getting tweaked.

Steve is suposed to be here 2nd week of November. are you getting anything installed this time around?

thanks for the info. I had heard a similar thing about IMS. If you get IMS, then you also loose your Netherlands setting. I wonder if you can have UHI and IMS on Mexico setting ? I suppose one of those settings should allow everything to work correctly. You would think !??!

When you get the new switch row, get the one with PTS, UHI, IMS and all the other stuff you have on it now. That's the one I'm looking for. UHI is just below the PTS button. And IMS is just below the anti-tow alarm button. Might go for your switch row for the C320 Sedan, but the wife will probably think it's overkill.

Nothing installed by Steve this time around. Just delivery of stuff he's bringing over (hopefully: AMG exhaust, Euro Coupe rear plate bezel, AMG door window-button trim, and Parktronic stuff). Probably will have him play around with my Instrument Cluster again, and see if I get some extra settings (Netherlands alarm chirp & PTS activation). I need to also solder some resistors into my side-marker lightbulb connectors. Hopefully, Mark will help me out with that.

he got my email about the C32 coupe window trim. he said hell try and place the order since he's not shipping items for another 1 1/2 weeks. im hoping it comes in. that would be sooooo cool!

i will get the UHI button as well. didnt know it was out. when you push the UHI button, what does it do? turn off your UHI system? if you want the row for the sedan let me know. i bought it cheap, so ill sell it to you cheap.

when you set IMS on the car, why would you need to activate UHI for the alarm?

ill send an email to steve or sunil and find out how much a new switch row will cost me. let me know when you wanna get started on your PTS install!

Don't know exactly. I'm assuming here: UHI button activates feature that allows phone conversation thorugh speakers or turns off speakers ???
Maybe Dr. Sunman can answer this one.

Not sure what you mean. UHI is phone. IMS is interior motion sensor. Alarm ???

Let me know price & part # too. I have one part # for a full switch row including IMS, but don't have the one that also has the UHI button. That's the one I want !

e-mail me later on your CLK switch row and I'll see if she bites.

Once I get the main harness and other key parts, I'll go at it full time and will require the expertise of you & Donnie (aka Pizza & Beer).

I guess, what I meant is that if you need the MEXICO setting to allow UHI to work,

is there a certain country setting required for IMS to work ?? I was under the impression that there is, because someone said they lost their NL setting (Alarm Chirp) when IMS was activated. And so the question: does MEXICO setting allow both UHI and IMS to work ?

What would be nice is to find a country setting that allows all functions to work including the Alarm Chirp.
