C230K 4,000 RPM neutral limit

So, the other day, in a foul (or was that fowl?) mood, I rev the engine and come to find out that there's a 4K rpm rev limiter on the 6 sp manuals when not in gear.
Did you know that?

That's only true if your car's stopped. If you pop it into neutral while rolling, you can get over 6k easy. I'm talking auto though.

same with the 6sp i believe. can't the manual thogh be rev'd up to 6k if moving? i thought the rev limiter was only if you were parked.

Yes, the 6-spd can rev up to 6K while moving. I tried it yesterday on my less than 1000km C230 Sedan.....

135. Then the car slows because youve reached the artificially controlled Vmax.

yeah, man... don't mess with the California Highway Patrol. I got nailed a couple years ago in my Toyota. 90 in a 55, on the 5 fwy going thru Commerce area at 2am Thursday night. (I actually got the car up to 120 ) The judge sent me to the County Coroner Office as punishment, saw a bunch of dead people and saw a slideshow of what happens when people meet sign posts, other cars, brick walls, going at excessive speeds. Very educational. Government scare tactics :v

edit: whoa... i just noticed, i've been a member since 2002, but this is my first post. maybe cuz i don't actually have a MB yet

according to my calculation, that's about 137 mph

220 km/h x 1 mi/1.61 km = 136.6 miles/h

Fast Cars!
You guys should get the renntech ECU if you want to rev to redline in neutral. I remember it was lots of fun when i someone would rev at me in my old c230 and i would rev back and rev it to about redline, fun watching them get scared. :p
