I actually meant people that enter their "own" cars into shows. SEMA, Hot Import Nights, etc.

I used to enter Porsche Club of America (PCA) concours events, and have been to the MB Club show at Fashion Island, Newport Beach most years.
I have a feeling those may be different than the "car shows" (Hot Import Nights, Rice-O-RamaFest, or whatever) that you are thinking about, though. For example, there has never been a burnout contest, bikini contest, or loudest stereo contest at any of the of the PCA or MB events . . .

A PT Cruiser and Dodge Neon got higher ratings than an S600... How on earth is this possible?

I attend or judge 2-3 shows per year. Being a lifelong VW owner (I've had more than a dozen of them) I've Been going to Waterfest the past few years. There are always the Carlisle PA shows too. They are very good.
