If so is it mounted in the rear view mirror? How can I retrofit this into my car, would it require a new mirror or could it someone be wired into my existing mirror?

Yes it's mounted there. I buy it for my 2002 and has it installed, it goes connected directly in the center panel up. (where the reading lights).

The light it's so low that is not noticable. Don't worth a $.

i dunno my moms e500 has the whole ambient thing would look cool but prob not worth it since there is nearly no way to add it the rear seat light. This depends on if the '05s have it in the back or not. Another option would be to maybe "borrow" the rear ceiling light from a W211.

damn, id like to retrofit that, i wouldnt do the rear light. i think id have problems with the rear PTS display. but im definately interested in the front. where exactly is the front one located?

the front ambient light is located under the rear view mirror on 05 C classes. The mirror costs about 700 bucks with garage door opener controls.

what a joke, im going to try and take mine apart and mount an LED on a circuit board.

Yes you can do that but make sure the LED is pretty bright

for my mercedes sells little wide angle LEDs already wired with leads that are easy to attach.
