Damage at prep center or BS?

Hey guys..well, we were going to add another mb to our family..but..

Basically, the car was in teh prep center 2 weeks ago..after a week of not hearing from the dealer, I suspected 1 of 2 things. The car was damaged or he sold the car somewhere else (we got a good deal on the car, and maybe he decided to make more profit and screw us over).

Well another week passed, and today he says the car was damaged beyond repair. I find it hard to believe that THAT kind of damage would happen. I can see a bumper or something..but thats pretty major if you ask me.

I still kind of think this is a story he made up because he maybe didn't realize he sold the car too cheap. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of situation? I kind of needed the car by the end of the month and the dealer knew that...now I'm scrambling to find a similarly equipped one...

THAT SUCKS DUDE!!! If that ever happened to my car (It's arriving Monday at the prep center) the ***** would hit the fan! And I'm talking Rhyno quantity with Gorilla velocity! I'm too nice to really do much, but my dad would tear the salesman a brand new orrifice, in which he will verbaly force the salesman to stick his own head up!... If I was patient enough to wait another 10 weeks, I would actually like to see that happen, it would be entertaining! Give 'em hell, they better give you an awesome deal now!

damaged beyond repair??? what happened, did the car fall off the ship? :p

but that really sux...you should ask the dealer to provide photos or see the car yourself...see what their response is. If they can't provide pics or you see it with your own eyes, definitely raise hell at the dealer. They probably either never put in your order when they realized the deal they gave you, forgot about your order or sold it to someone else for more.

good luck!

If they have to get you a replacement and it takes another 10 weeks, is it possible to get a loaner during the 10 weeks?

you are in NJ where the port is, tell them to go there and take pics or take you there and show you the damage. I think they are lying.

Perhaps if you have the VIN # of the car they had ordered for you, you may be able to see if they sold it to someone else?

Just a thought. I don't know if it is possible to find this out but worth a try?

A Volvo dealer told me last year that a ship full of XC90's and BMW's is setting at the bottom of the ocean somewhere between the US and Europe.
Anyway, what does you order/contract say? If "circumstances beyond their control" have caused you to not get your car, you can go to the dealership and act like a fool, like someone else here said, but it'll probably get you nowhere except at the end of the finger of the manager telling you to get off his property. I'd be firm, yet "adult", about the whole thing. They should lessen the blow to you in some manner. If not, vote with your wallet and move on.

I suggest, based on personal experience, that you double-check with MB-USA on Monday morning.

As explained in this thread, my own car was held up for more than three weeks at the prep center last September. I was getting frustrated by what was starting to look like a runaround by the dealer, but it was not his fault -- turns out that MB headquarters had more info than he did about what was holding up the car (a bumper part that needed to be brought from Germany). After I gave them my VIN, they tracked the car and got the info I needed. I got the car a few days later -- I was told that they had rushed delivery after they finally got the part.

Good luck!

If memory serves, I called 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372). I tried to follow the phone tree towards diplomatic & military sales, but the program led me to European Delivery. A live person at ED then transferred me to someone in DD, who was very nice.

More generally, I have only good things to say about the DD dpt at MB USA. They were extremely helpful throughout my purchasing process.

Angry

I am going to give them a call today..

This is what I have discovered with a little help from mbworld!

1) The car arrived a month ago at the vpc! Note: NOT MARKED SOLD
2) a week later, marked sold
3) 2.5 weeks later marked as traded ..to whom? it was sold!
4) a couple of days ago marked ready for delivery...but not for us?!
5) yesterday it was blocked.

Seems like someone screwed up, and the damage story was something they made up to cover their asses. Funny thing is my finally has bought plenty of cars from the salesman. At least he could have been straight with me. Now we will see if mbusa can tell me anything.

It was none of the above. I won't say specifically what dealer it was until this is all finalized. Then I can say fairly what the outcome was and if they finally fess up and maybe try to do something about it.

I can honestly say that the car should have been bought from Ray Catena though. I never had any problem with them, and I bought my e55 from them with a great experience. In the end trying to get a cheaper price and giving business to a fellow greek came back to bite us in the ***.

As a follow up, I did just call MBUSA at the above number. The cutsomer rep said there was nothing that he could do besides note my concerns, and that my only recourse would be through teh sales manager at the dealer, then through the general manager there if I was unsuccessful. I would think they could have some pull, but I guess not.

We visited the prep center a couple of months ago...

And there were quite a few cars in their body shop for repair - both minor and major repairs. If the repair on the car is more than a certain percentage of the value of the car (I'm thinking 3%, but I am not sure), then the car cannot legally be sold as a new car. That may have been one explanation of what happened to yours.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
