Ticking noise from behind cluster
I have started to get a ticking noise from behind my instrument cluster that goes away momentarily when the brake pedal is pressed. This happens both whilst stopped and on the move. Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks. If you make any headway, I'd be grateful if you could update this thread.

There is no ticking noise at all coming out of my instrument cluster, but if I did have noise and was curious to see/hear what was living back there I would remove the instrument cluster and see for myself. You'll need to buy a the instrument cluster removal tools at the MB dealer (about $15) and pull it out. My neighbor had a mouse living in his, chewed through the cruise control wiring while driving. Finally trapped it with a lot of traps.

Ticking Noise
Got my 240 2 weeks ago, feel as if the ticking is coming from the glass covering the instrument cluster...maybe a little loose...going over bumps in the road it is slight, when I crank the bass on the stereo it really starts ticking...

The noise I had is at a steady rhythm. At first I thought it was a label on a CD hitting off of something as it spun round. I eventually eliminated that togethr with heater fan. It got really strange when I found out it went off when I pressed the brake pedal. I have even managed to replicate in with the key in POS 2 with the engine off.

Have you solved it?
Best Regards.

I found this answer on the net:
What It Is, Is A Electric Stepper Motor That Is Going Past It's Stop, Because Linkage That Connects It To The Hvac Flap Is Broken. The Most Common One To Fail Is The Footwell Flap Motor/linkage. This Is In Ignition Switch Area. Mercedes Offers Newly Updated Linkage Not So Prone To Breakage. Other Stepper Motor Positions Fail As Well, But It Is The Footwell Flap Motor/linkage 80% Of The Time.

Yes, even with the air off. Seems that when starting the car a computer moves the flap to find where is, then it moves it where the front panel switches tell it to go.

Then I have the same problem and it's doing it anytime. When I start the car, after 45 seconds, after 30 seconds, after 2 minutes, after 15 seconds, etc....
Best Regards.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. Just got my '05 C230 a few days ago. I just noticed there's an itty bitty piece of wood ( ) inside the instrument cluster which really annoys me and I need to get it out. How do you actually open the cluster? Is it hard, should I have the dealer do it? Thanks for your help.
