Alpine cda-7995 head unit with alpine xm tuner
Jl 300/4 amp running jl xr-650 components in stock front locations and jl xr 650 mid-woofers in rear stock location.
Jl 500/1 mono bass amp powering a Jl 10w-7. The box was built for sound quality as well as functionality. It still allows for access to the spare tire and is a three chamber design. SPL with this sub is in the low 140s. It is as loud as most 3 12" systems.
I will add to this system in the next few months. I plan to have dvd, ps2 and screens in the sunvisors. I am seriously thinking to lose the spare tire and do a full custom trunk with all of the goodies. Sorry for the blurry pics.

Damn that's a clean head unit install though. How did they do it? Did they get a kit? Or did they custom manufacture an adapter?
what dash install kit are you using? please list a part number, manufacture, and if possible a location to purchase. i am really torn between having an interface for the factory head unit (audio 10 preferrably), or using my pioneer 825. i like the factory look, but the sound blows
thanks
Jim
The front speakers (tweeter and midrange) most likely have a passive crossover. However, those crossovers are tuned for those speakers. So you would not use them with aftermarket component speakers. Instead, you would use the crossovers that come with your new set of speakers.
Never use crossovers designed for one system in another system. It won't sound right. The crossover point between the tweeter and midrange and the relative levels of the drivers will be wrong. There could also be overlap between the ranges covered by the drivers if they do not match the crossover.
Crossover design is something that is very specific to the frequency response curves and impedences of the drivers you are using.

When a true active system is used, whereby each drive unit receives its own banwidth limited power amplified signal, this can facilitate shaping the sound in a much braoder range of applications/situations to either text book flat response or your own personal tastes(less intrusively than when using a grapic E.Q....even one of parametric design.)
However splitting the source signal at or after ther point of pre-amplification,then being passed from active x-overs on to seperate power amp stages (one per drive unit) often proves more expensive than many people are happy about.
Actively amplified loudpseaker systems are in many qualified peoples experience (recording studio sound engineers, audiophile loudspeaker manufacturers)the best way around the inherent weaknesses of passive x-over design.
With all of that said,I will be very interested to hear the forth coming car audio system made for Aston Martin by Linn products of scotland,it should adhere to all of the above principles.....................in theory!!!!

McIntosh MC444 (4 x 110w) Amp
JL XR-653CS (3-way component set)
(aforementioned parts are from my old car).
I have also decided to get the JL 500/1 amp but am deciding between using 2 x 10w3's or 1 x 10w7 like you're using.
If you could, could you elaborate more on how the single 10w7 sounds? Thanks!

Kicker Component I6.2
Kicker Amp 1302
Kicker Amp 704
Kicker 2 15" Subs Comp Vr
Kicker X-Over 3.1

I still need to get a set of speakers for the rear, most likely Kicker again. Im really excited about the Neo Mp3 HU the most though.
