Battery cover and air conditioner
Could anyone please explain the cover over the battery which contains an air filter. When you remove the cover there is a compartment that seems to house a fan. The cover has information about the air conditioning system so I am assuming the fan is related to the air conditioner. Also, when the car is running a door apparently comes down to block the compartment with the fan. What does all of this do? Why would the battery be so close to an apparent air intake and why is the intake only open when the car is off? PS I did a search before posting. Wouldn't want to get flamed. :v
Thanks in advance.

i think its the air intake for the airconditioner, the housing is for the aircon filter. y is it near the battery???? all i know, most cars have aircon air intakes near the windscreen. maybe it just so happened the battery is put there.

That is the intake filter for the aircon system. All cars have that filter. The flap that covers that hole is the recirc mode that covers that vent incase you want to recirculate air inside the cabin. If you have a c320 model, the this car also have a interior cabin charcoal odor filter that is activated from the dash.

I have been looking for the air intake to the a/c to spray some odorcide into it. Is there someplace else I should be looking?
It is a C240 but during Service B the invoice shows changing the cabin filter. But I still have this sweet/sour odor whenever the car gets wet--even just going through a carwash. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I am pretty sure the c240 does NOT have a cabin filter. Just the cabin intake filter. The filters are changed every oil change. The flap should come on until the interior cabin temp normalizes to the preset.

Those Carbon activated filter is great, whenever i activate it, the air smell great. Does your car has a weak airflow?? My car's aircon is struggling during the OZ extreme summer.
