Question Light switch Illumination on 2005 vs 2001-2004 W203

I just wanted to ask for those who has a 2005 C230SS (If there would be any difference), does the icon on your headlight switch light up?? I just wanna ask cuz mine doesn't and when I bring in the car to get it fixed, they said that there is no light there. It seems pretty strange to me since there is light even on the side mirror icon but not on the headlight?? How do I know which light do I have it on if there's the icon of the light is not lighted up??
Thanks a lot!

It's my first post here BTW

Question One quick question about the light switch on 2005 W203

I just wanted to ask for those who has a 2005 C230SS (If there would be any difference), does the icon on your headlight switch light up??
I'm asking about this since mine doesn't and when I bring to the dealer to get it fixed, they said that there is no light there for the icon (but interesting enough, there is light on the "pointer thing" on the switch itself).
It seems pretty strange to me since there is light even on the side mirror icon but not on the headlight?? How do I know which light do I have it on if there's the icon of the light is not lighted up??

Thanks a lot for any info.

On my 05 C320 the icon doesn't light up. The way I know the lights are on is because of the icons that turn on in the heads up display: one on the speedometer and another on the rpm meter.

The fog light icon does light up when the fog lights are on; both for the front and rear (green and orange respectively).

Welcome to the board; i'm a newbie myself.

on my car,

Headlight on = Green light icon lights up on dash (right below the speedo)
Fog light on = Green (or orange??) lights up to the left of the turning knob.

I checked this out on my car (2005, C230K SS, 6 sp) the past three nights to confirm. In darkness the entire light switch lights up, pointer and light bulb icon, when I enter the car. In brighter conditions twilight conditions neither light up. Indeed, when I turn on the headlights the green headlight icon lights up on the speedo as well as all of the dashboard lights, including the lightbulb icon and pointer on the light switch. Have your dealer check it again, sounds like a bulb is blown or not connected.

By the entire light switch, you mean all the 2 parking light, the "0", "Auto", DRL and low beams icon on the switch right?? Just want to make sure about that and please, take me a picture of it if possible so that i can show it to the service advisor to tell them "There is a light" there, since last 2 time i went theyere they said there is NO light...

I've attached the pics of my light switch in 3 modes:
#1: Ignition in #2 position in dark garage.
#2: Ignition in #2 position, switch set to park.
#3: Ignition in #2 position, switch set to park, front and rear fogs on.

I know that when I got into the car tonight after work that the light switch, only the black part you twist was lit without the key in the ignition. I couldn't repeat that in the garage when taking the pics. I hope that the pics are clear, the tripod wasn't exactly stable when I took the pictures. But you should be able to see that the center icon of the lightbulb is lit in all three modes. I hope this helps.

One more thing to add, my car is a bone stock 6sp, no BIX headlamps or anything other than true standard equipment. Given this I can only assume that if my car has it, everyone else's should as well. Next time you check the switch make certain that it's dark and that the ignition is in the #2 position. If the icon still doesn't light up I would take a color print out of the pics to your dealer and have them explain why yours doesn't.

See Garage
Looking at the pictures offered by DriveABenz, the light switch on the '05 appears to be exactly like my '01 model, suggesting that this is a stock switch used on all W203s to date.

Every Icon Lights on my switch. I'd take a copy of the pics to the dealer and ask them to explain it... then fix yours under warranty.

Some dealers...

Double check your headlamp switch when you are driving at night and/or when the ignition switch is in the #2 position. The center icon on my switch does not light up when the ignition is not in the #2 position, even when I turn the headlamps on. Mercedes have had lighted headlamp switches for decades. A 1985 W123 turbodiesel sedan I considered buying 3 years ago had one, it was an orange dot in the center of the switch that lit. Again, my car has nothing but completely standard equipment so I can't believe that it has something that other cars don't.

that's so weird... mine don't light up, either. I always just chalked it up to "that's retarded " like how the coupe's pano roof isn't 1-touch close... and the non-user-defined heated mirrors...

Err. Ok mine does light up. I just never noticed it. In the off position, it's like picture 1, when I turn the knob, the panels lights up like in pictures 2 and 3 (depending on the position; I drive an 05 C320 4Matic)

What's a non-user-defined heated mirror?

This is interesting, mine doesnt light up either. Could it be the difference between Bi-xenon and standard hallogen ?

I don't think it would be the difference since DriveABenz doesn't have Bi-Xenon and his switch does light up nicely and mine doesn't have Bi-Xenon also but it doesn't light up.

What's the problem with your mirror??
The ones on the W203 worked quite well.
We also never had a problem with the heated side mirror on my family's previous cars, did you get them checked and make sure it's in working order?? Maybe the part that makes the heat (don't know what it's called) is blown or something.
