2005 C320 4Matic
Holes near temperature sensor

I noticed there are two holes on each side of the bumper below the fog lights on a C320 4Matic. I took the picture below and circled the holes on one side. There are two on the left side and two on the right side. The ones on the left are next to the temperature sensor.

I was looking at other pictures of C240s and C320 but can't make out the holes in other pictures (but there aren't many 4Matic pictures with the right view point).

Anyone know if those holes are supposed to be covered?

I couldn't find an answer via a search.

(ignore the snow/salt; sorry, bad weather the last few days)

Yeesh...Im glad i don't live somewhere that snows. Anywho my 02 240 has very similar looking holes near the fogs. Me thinks they're just rivets that hold the whole piece on? Am i wrong?

What is that piece called?

On the sport sedans, it's mesh like. Does anyone know if I can swap out mine for one of those from a sport sedan---can I even buy just the piece (sorry I don't know what it's called)?

Thanks.

Ah, yes, we've had this question before but the answer is very obscure. Those are attachment points for a very special accessory. Check here.... http://www.big-boys.com/articles/carcoaster.html

Kidding aside, I don't know what those are. At least they are smaller that the ones on my C320.

Well, one's offensive, and one's just a simple bodily function.

So I should give up on getting a straight answer (re. the name of the piece and if I can swap it out for one that looks like the SS) ?

(I enjoyed that video clip MB BOB )

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I'm not aware that there is a straight answer to this one. I have holes in my lower grill that have plastic plugs, yet other holes of exactly the same size without covers. There's no rhyme or reason to it in my view.

My uneducated guess would be that there's a manufacturing reason for having the holes, and is not associated at all with how the car functions. I don't see a real reason to have the holes there. But I could be wrong...
