replacing map and vanity lights???

after calling my dealer, they said that some of the interior lights are difficult to replace and it would require possibly removing some of the headliner and taking some stuff apart. he told me if i wanted to bring it there that he would need it for at least half a day to replace some bulbs

has anybody replaced the map lights or vanity lights before or know how to? i've tried with no success as the plastic covers just don't seem to want to be pryed off.

Your dealer sounds screwed up... just stick a flat head screw driver in the one side and pull it down. Its EASY! Lets just say, It'll take you no more then a minute to get it out! Can anyone say, the dealership only wants money for a two minute JOB????? I would NEVER go back to them. If I lived in Ohio, I would come over and help you out. I would love to see another C class. hehe

heh, well while you're absolutely right about my dealer, i think you neglected the second part of my first post. i have already tried to remove the plastic covers (with a flat head screwdriver) and they seriously wont budge. the only ones i've been able to get off like this are the front and rear dome lights, as for the interior trunk light, map lights, glove box light, and vanity lights though, they simply refuse to come out by prying unless you wanna break'em

I never could get the cover off the light in the trunk either. When I posted that fact on this forum seeking help I got a nasty reply. However, I had to take it into the dealer for something else so they replaced the bulb for me. I don't know if it was under warranty, but they didn't charge me.

This should be post #75 for me. I hope this gets me my membership.

Sorry, left the car for the day and got a loaner. But I just found the invoice and they replaced the light under warranty.

Hey, LooP, I see you will be a member also in 3 more posts. Congratulations.

Passenger vanity bulb blew out over the weekend. Has anyone successfully removed the cover without cracking it? I've search for other threads and sounds like it's not as easy as sticking a flat head screwdriver. Any feedback is appreciated. Advanced thanks.

i can feel it start to come out a little bit when i pull on it but haven't had any luck getting the plastic cover off without feeling like it was gonna break. it seems like such a petty thing to go to the dealer for, but if you do end up goin, please post on how they did it or how they told you to replace the bulb

anyone else have any other thoughts on this?

Can anyone chime in on how to remove the cover? It just seems a waste of time to take it to the dealer for a bulb replacement. Thanks.

i figured it out finally, i posted it in another thread but i'll repost it in here since it is more relevant here:

for anyone else that needs to get to these, they WILL come out, it took me a while and some aching fingers, but i finally figured out the easiest way to replace/remove the vanity lights.

1st it depends on which side you're on, driver's side will slide down from the left side and the passenger side is best opened from the right side. both on the sides closest to their respective window.

next, when you begin prying down, if you see metal up there, make sure you DO NOT pull on the metal part, the metal stays up there, once you get a big enough gap to fit something between the metal and the plastic, you need to insert something (between the metal and plastic cover, i just used a quarter (aka $0.25 piece )) and push INSIDE, there is a small thing that goes on an angle almost like a latch, you need to push on this and pull down at the same time to get the cover off and down.

once you've got the cover off, you can push on the black latch connected to the power and the entire thing comes down to replace the bulb (you dont need to do this part to replace the bulb but it sure makes it a heck of a lot easier.)

that's about it, if anybody needs pictures or more detail just ask

Hey, I appreciate posting the instructions on 2 threads. I'll give it a try. Thanks again!
