Without Apple you would still be typing a command at the C-prompt. Without Apple there would be no Windows. This forum would still be a text file you would have to FTP. Or are you too young to remember the world before Macintosh?

does the sony actually play mp3s or is it only supported in the sense that it'll convert it to ATRAC3 for you? i hate how sony "mp3 players" dont even play mp3s

I've played with the Sony at the Metreon, and I wasn't impressed. A 30 hour battery life and size were great, but navigation of the menus, sound quality, and cost weren't very convienent. I also borrowed an Ipod from a friend of mine (his sister's 4G). In comparison, the navigation is great (Ipod has the market cornered there) but the battery life and sound quality suck. I'd recommend you check out the Creative Zen Touch. 24 hour battery life, excellent sound, decent navigation, and great price (about $220). See if you like it.

this sony, the HD3 does play mp3, whereas the HD1 doesnt.
so whats the news about ipod intergration. will it only be for spring cars, or can we still get in cars tat are still on order, like mine thats still in germany

i was just looking on mbusa. and it talks abt the the ipod kit being a dealer install, is this correct. so i woulndt have to have them put it in at the factory/.?

vdub: I did a bunch of research on this same issue, and most places I looked compared everything to the ipod. Many of the things I read said to "just buy the IPOD and get it over with." Not sure about the Sony, but the IPOD was able to play VBR mp3's (many were not), which is what my whole collection is comprised of. I bought it (used) and am happy. Plus you can integrate with the new 2005 models and you can't to that with the other brands.
There several places to pick up some slightly used ones for a bunch less money, so happy hunting.
Now if MB would only make a 6 CD/DVD changer that reads MP3's from DVD media ...

i am a sony wh0re just like you, i like all the sony products even if they cost more but when it comes to mp3 players IPOD is the winner, the best there is and always will be. a month ago i lost my 10gig 3rd gen ipod and it felt like i lost my best friend. next week i'm buying a 4th gen 20gig. buy.com has them on sale and i got a $30 coupon to use there.

yeah my wife's been wanting to buy me an ipod for 4 months now but i told her to holdup cuz i wanted to check out the sony . i read some reveiws on the hd3 and it seems it has hard drive issues. now im leaning towards getin the 30gb ipod photo,

Sony products used to be the gold standard in electronics, but lately they have been spread too thin in their attempt to control hardware and content. The Ipod might be a better choice for a lot of people because it is technologically simple, and Apple has done their homework as far as the user interface is concerned.
