OEM Fire Extinguisher

finally had it installed. the dealer installed it for me while my car was in for service the past 2 weeks. here are some pics. thanks for the bracket sunman and sending me the fire extinguisher. also the shop foreman printed the WIS for removing the headliner in a coupe and im going to install my Interior Motion Sensor this weekend and of course will post pics of the install and instructions for those who would like to do that mod. also ill copy the WIS for removing the coupe headliner and email if anyone wants them.

as you can see the extinguesher is not very noticable from the driver position.

I would like to know why someone would put that in a car. I would think you would need this, more in a kichen, rather then a car. But that's me. haha

rockintunes23, its all good. im not surprised you'd ask that. basically it was another OEM mod for me to install in my car. probably never use it, but then again you never know. my car may catch on fire with a flamer inside, so good thing i have it just in case.

Don't regulations in some countries require that a car be outfitted with a fire extinguisher? Definitely not in the US, but I vaguely remember that in some European countries it is a must-have.

Yes it is a requirement in some countries. Also, Doug, are you sure it's mounted right. I think the handle goes inside. Flip it over.

In almost thirty years, I've only needed a fire estingisher once from the car. Was I glad it was there. Saved a 67 GMC truck we were doing an engine swap on when gas leaked out of the carburator and caught fire.

Either way, it's all good now. Car fires, I've seen, seem only to happed to those WITHOUT extinguishers.

are there any benefits from mounting it underneath the drivers seat as opposed to say, trunk?

any chance it could exploded in an accident underneath the driver? o_0

the advantage to the drivers seat (this is my theory), is that in an accident, the extinguisher is right there under your legs. reach down, pull the little red handle, the extinguisher falls from the bracket and basically into in your hands. it is small light weight, and very easy to use. it is clearly labeled, steps 1, 2 and 3. the writing on the extinguisher is all in german, but the little instruction handout has english written on it. i did read it to familarize myself with the extnguisher.

thanks! the bracket was free. sunman had an extra one. im not sure how much the bracket itself costs, but i would think maybe $30. the extinguisher cost me $105. that included shipping and customs from germany.
