Kleemann Chip
I called Kleemann about their ECU chip upgrade. They told me about 550 dollars. This sounded pretty reasonable compared to the 1000 that powerchip charges. I called the Colorado office. The said I would need to send my ECU in, then he would copy the original software on a disc somewhere and then keep it safe incase I wanted to revert back to the old software. THe new software would be flashed on. Gain are around 10-15 horsepower. anyone want to try it?

I did the exact thing, but with a RennTech chip.
A local tuner downloads my ECU software, sends it to RennTech, they analyze it and send me the new software to be uploaded/flashed. Gain was about 13 HP and xx in Torque. Also cut out the fuel octane search, which causes delay in some MB's when you first step on the gas. RennTech also saves your original ECU settings, and will re-load if you ever want to go back (not sure why you would want to). Also, if MB or any other service ever flashes your upgrade away, RennTech will re-flash your ECU at no cost.
for $550, the Kleemann chip sounds good !!

Powerchips is been in trouble with spanish law, etc...
They sold the chips with nothing more; they are the same than the stocks.
They maybe only do that with the chips that com to Spain.
I will try to find a papernews so you can see.
Best Regards.

I'd be interested. How long would it take to get the ECU back? How hard is it to remove? I wonder how much I would gain since I already have the Evosport pullies installed. I've been contemplating with either RennTech or Powerchip.

ggong, I think it would take three days max with over night shipping. i believe around a 20HP gain and possibly ~25ftlb of torque.... but i think the throttle response will be much quicker.... that is what I would get an ECU upgrade for....

I was told the same thing from Kleemann. I wonder, are they all the same except for price or does one have higher gains. If optimal A/F ratio is between 12.8:1 and 13.2:1 and they all know this, price must be the only difference. Unless false claims are being sold.

On my VW I had a Techtonics Tuning (TT) High Altitude chip.
It provided: HP & TQ gain, better response & increased gas mileage.
Removing ECU is fairly easy with little 'garage' knowledge... I think there was a 'how-to' around here at one point. I used to install chips for a Upsolute vendor here in Colorado; and as long as you disconnect the battery before removal there aren't any other major precautions. Once they get your ECU they will pop open the case, un- solder the main chip, program it, re-solder it, close housing, send back. A good technician will align the painted corner screw so dealerships can't tell someone opened it up.

How long did it take for you to feel the difference, if any, in performance?
