an advantage of having the panoramic moonroof
for those of you still not convinced how great the panoramic moonroof truly is, i have this short story:
i leave a can of coke on the back half of the roof (temporarily of course while i get my keys out), get in the car and prepare to drive off... eileen looks up at the sky, "hey, what's that?" and i look up thru the large expanse of glass - doh!

The new Mini has something similar. That car is so small, though, that it probably won't have such a big impact on the feel of the car.

I don't see the use for have a sun foof of any kind. If you are hot while driving turn on the AC or put down the window. You can't look at the sky while driving so that isn't a reason to get it. There isn't any more head room with the roof, plus unless you get a black C230 you will have a two tone car. I personaly like my car to be the same color on the whole thing. If its a nice day just put your window down and save the $1000.

And your point is?
Different likes for different tykes, I guess. I personally would NEVER get a car that did not have a sunroof option. That's the main reason why I don't have a wrx wagon. Not that it's a big part of the package, but the rain sensor is a really cool feature in its own right.
If you want to talk about a waste of money, there's one option that's a big one. I won't mention it, but it starts with "a u t o".

no, no, no....you've got it all wrong!
Owning a Mercedes is about owning a fine automobile. Consequently, it's also about image...
What better way to project that image than with a feature unlike anyone else's? Like the original t-tops of the '70's I'm sure it may grow old. But for now...The panarama roof has a curbside appeal like no other.

I now see why I was a little worried about getting a MB because of all the snobs and their image that owned them. I didn't want to be associated with that stereo type. I got the car because it was what I wanted not for some image.

Oh, now wait a minute fellas...
Young, I was't commenting about your post. I thought it was funny. I leave things on my roof all the time, so I can relate. Besides, it's a unique topic. (Compared to reading for the 23rd time threads trashing the fiber-optic stereo system in our beautiful cars... that's just an example).
My comment related to how quickly the fun-loving guys around here hijacked your post with (friendly) barbs, etc. I wish I had a nickel for everytime I posted a question that quickly got sidetracked into a completely different direction...
We're all C-Class working stiffs, here. I'm daily surrounded in rush hour traffic by SUV's that cost more than my MB.
Peace.

MB-BOB: "Uh, well, it's an entry level Mercedes-Benz."
Friend: "A Mercedes!!! Geez!! Well, can you fit me on your country club calendar for a lunch ride someday? My wife is driving my Lincoln Navigator this week."

Open mind
Ok, I'm ready to have an open mind about this sunroof thing. What do you all see as the advantages of the sunroof, besides "you've got to have it for resale".?

Hmmm...our old friend Aesop once said
"SOUR GRAPES"
As far as snobbery....far from it here Mr. NOTorious.
I got this car because I needed to replace my daily ride, and if I'm going to drop 30k on a car, it had to be a quality car...not some Japanese 'made in America so we can say it was' thing that would fall apart after the first major service.
Your hostility precedes you Notorious.....might I make a simple one word suggestion? DECAFF!

Besides that...I haven't owned a car without a sunroof since I graduated college...

Well, a sunroof allows a much larger amount of air into the cabin, which allows for easier outgassing once one leaves the Taco Bell.
One really great thing about the panorama roof is that it'll allow sunlight in during the winter.
You should drive one - it's a much different feel with the roof open on a nice day. I've driven both, and the car feels a little claustrophobic without a roof, but that may be because I've always had one.

I'm moving to the C230 from a Mazda Miata, so the panoramic sunroof is an adequate substitute for a convertible (or so I keep trying to tell myself).
There's something to be said about being able to drive top-down in winter, enjoying the warm sunshine, then come back to the computer and post it in a forum where frozen folks up north can read and suffer.
