Precisely where did you find that? I searched high and low and did not see it. My salesman told me today that MB will not do anything for anybody that is not advertised. Not even the Pope.
He gave me an example of a local gazillionaire, long time multiple MB buyer, who wanted something for his new S550 and was turned down flat. There was a time when you could, for a fat fee, specify a color from another model line but that's long gone.

So, we'll see what the dealer says. He may have to sell me a bit to take the gray interior. Or I may just stick with the lux and update the grille.
