I'm up to a $2,500 discount with my dealer (Ontario). Hopefully he'll budge a few more bucks when I sign on the dotted line!

Internet departments usually give the lower pricing. I mean how else will they get you in to the dealership? All of our first run C-classes have sold at sticker and the next batch have all pre-sold except for one, at sticker. You guys have to remember, there's not much mark up in the C-class to begin with, so if they're willing to give $1000 off MSRP, take it and run...

Joey G, there isnt $2500 mark up in the C-class, they must be giving it to you at invoice minus some money, which is not a good move on the dealership's part IMO.

How lucky are you guys, not only do you pay a lot less than we do in Australia but you also get a discount, I had to pay over $80k for the below spec C200 and with no discount, it wasn't from a lack of trying on my behalf as I have never paid RRP for a car but the answer I got back from the sales manager was, we currently have a 5 month waiting list and have sold over 80 cars before the release so why should we discount, so I ate humble pie and placed my order that day back in June and hopefully it arrives in October. The dealer did throw in MB mats, full tank of fuel & window tinting to make me feel good.

Cheers

i assume that's 80 Australian...still it equates to about 64 US, we can get a fully loaded (US spec) E class for that.

Yes that $80k in Australian dollars, when I ordered mine back in June the exchange rate to US$ was $0.8334 so that = US$66755 hence there are not to many MB on the road in Australia as they are out of reach for most Australians.
When you pay over $58k for a car the Government charge you an additional tax called "Luxury Tax" so up goes the price. The average car purchased in Australia is between $30k - $40k = US$25 - US$33. so no Luxury Tax.

Cheers

Man that is one expensive C Class. I hope at least yours is decked out with standard options. I don't even want to think what an S-Class would go for down under.

Okay, dealer says he is willing to discount on inventory cars as he does not want these non-multimedia cars on the lot when the next shipment w/multimedia arrives. There is no discount on new orders.

Not my problem ... LOL.

I'm in Canada so the margins may be different. My final monthly lease payment is $590 + tax. That takes into consideration approximately a $2,500 reduction in the cap cost. That's for a C300 with a sport package and nothing else. The interest rate is 7.75% with a 54% residual on a 48month lease (24,000 kms/ year allowance). Pretty sweet deal!

I'm seeing $2555 between base invoice and msrp. What's the holdback or year-end factory bonus? ... if MB does that (which I'm sure any sales person would deny existed anyway), not that I'd try to negotiate into that territory. People have to make money otherwise there's no reason to be in business.

I'm surprised, because usually there's plenty of marketing money thrown at the launch of a new model to get it out on the streets. Between only having 2-3 cars at each dealer for sale, having the next batch weeks away, and BMW heavily discounting the leases on (the much more popular product in my market place) 335's at the same time, I'd say this was a pretty lack-luster launch.

I've seen no ads, just a couple of 500 word-one page mag reviews, and none on the streets. Can't compete with 3 series sales if there are no cars to buy and nobody knows they exist.

I agree with the lack of "launch" readiness. I have heard though that MBUSA has planned an aggressive ad campaign for Sept during NFL games, which should also be when the new batch of cars shows up. Don't quote me on that, just what I heard at the dealership. We'll see in a couple of weeks.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy the car in US and get it shipped there?

They have a similar tax in India. A Toyota Carolla that is 14k for us is like 22k in India.

That would just add another notch to the ineffective marketing dept. I somehow don't think the NFL demographic would be MB's target.

yea i thought that was odd when i heard it also. problem is, what would their target tv market be? cnn? if it is true, i think it is probably based on total viewers rather than target market.

although if they are pushing the new C toward younger, yuppie americans...i know what i'll be watching on sunday afternoons come early sept. i have also seen their "Summer of Love" ad campaign quite a bit lately, but can't remember whether it was during preseason games or not.

Snake, no can do, in Aus we are Right Hand Drive and then Government will hit you with Import Duty so you'll end up more than the local price. We pay high prices for imported cars to protect the local built GM & Ford car industry.

My dealer has informed me that the big "launch" for the new C300/350 will be Sept 19th.
