W204 Lifespan.

Does anybody think this model will last as long as the W203? (seven years.)

Not many cars these days have a life spa of that length.

If you research previous MB incarnations, you will probably notice a trend. Seven years is the norm for MB. Look for the W205 in 2015.

Yup, 3 cars lasted 25 years for the C Class...now we're on the 4th (on the 25th year) so I'd expect 2015 is right

2009/10 for the E class/CLS
2012/13 for the S Class

And a mid life refresh for all models. The current C class will get a refresh for 2010/2011 Model year with the 2015 model launching in 2014

Sounds like perfect timing to me....I can move up to the new E-Class when my C becomes old news after the "refresh".

I hope they really make some changes to the E similar to the S and now the C.

I think it will be no more than 6 years. So the chassis may run from 2008 to 2013. The E-Class W211 is only 6 years - 2003-2008.

Are you referring to the E-Class W211? If so, thanks for the update. Most talk on the E-Class boards stated 2008 as last year.

For our market, the E for 2009 will be the current W211. The new one will be here as a 2010 model sometime in early-mid 2009.

7 model years is now the norm for DBAG, generally. Competition can change that, but it's been pretty consistent across most of the sedan models [C, E, S] for a while now. The exceptions from the old days would never hold up to current competition [the 16+ years for the '72 SL, the W126 sedan from '81 through '91 come to mind], but they don't seem pressured to go to a 5-year cycle to match the Japanese, either.

...And here's why they've kept the long cycles and continue to do so...

Its because they introduce a new model every year for almost every brand. C class for example....

this year, the sedan...then the wagon...then the AMG version...then the coupe....then the CLK...then wait...its time for a mid life refresh... So it seems like the car is much busier than it is, but they add so many different models, that any consumer can find what they want (in just about any price range) and the company never seems like their cars are dying on the vine because they'll introduce a random R class...CLS, SLC, Ocean Drive, SLR that all continue to grab headlines, while keeping the prestegious long life cycles.

I say prestegious because when people buy a fine car they don't want to look up and it be out dated or out of style in 2 years. Which keeps resale up and everyone happy.

The end.

I agree. I just got my first C class. I would be gutted to see another new model arrive in 18 months. Thats why buying a MB is such a good product. IMO,
I can't see me changing my Class any time soon. I look forward to growing old together.
