How much did they ask you for a deposit?

$1,000.00. I'm having second thoughts, though. Think I can get my money back? (I signed nothing). I'm having second thoughts due to some negative reviews of the car.

Not sure if you can get your money back from the deposit as I was told the deposit is non refundable. Hopefully for your case you will get it back. Why are you having second thoughts?

Bad reviews the car has received along with the fact that I think I want a 3 series coupe instead (I have a 2006 325i now).

I was debating between the 3 Series and C-Class too, but every other person in Cali seems to drive a 3 Series, so I went with the C.

$2000 for me.

You really haven't seen or gotten to know the C-Class yet, I'd give it more of a chance. I really like the styling/performance, has everything I need. I have no reason to believe you WOULDN'T get your deposit back though. they just need that to order it.

As I understand it, although they said it's non-refundable, they have no legal basis to keep that money.

Last month my gf put down a "non-refundable" $500 deposit for a Honda CRV. However a week later she found a better deal at another dealer. She went back to the original dealership and demanded her money back, and they reluctantly returned her check, albeit with some necessary arm twisting.

$1000 for me too. The deposit is fully refundable. It only allows you to have first right of refusal when the car arrives.

Well my dealer in NJ said the 2500 deposit was non refundable because they have to protect their dealership.. I guess should the person back out of the deal. Intially he wanted a 4000 deposit but we refused to pay that much now and he went down to 2500. Because he was special ordering the car from Europe and it has a lot of things inside like ipod integration, illuminated sills, panorana roof, leather... he told us a customized car like that isn't going to be easy to sell so that is why the deposit was high and non refundable.

$1000 here and it is fully refundable per my dealer. It'll be my wife's car and I recommended the 335 to her but she fell in love with the Artic White C300.

My dealer took my CC # and told me he would authorize it for $1000, but not charge it unless I bought the car.

Basically when the car gets here I've got first crack at it and I buy or don't buy it. I think he did that because he isn't too worried about being able to sell the car if I decide not to buy it.

If you decide to go with the BMW, you should be able to get your money back.

You should get the car you want and any dealer worth doing business with in the future should refund your deposit if they can't offer you the car you really want.

+1...the C is selling well and most dealers worth their salt should have not trouble finding another owner.

at my dealership you could put as little as $500 deposit, but I wanted to earn as much points as I can on my credit card so I paid the maximum of $5000 on the card. Any more than that the dealership would charge me a fee for the credit card transaction.

WOW... Reading this just pisses me off, man! By principle alone, you should go back and demand your deposit back. A lot of people will have the same specs as yours, so I don't understand why the stealer would have to "protect themselves" if you back out of the deal. Glad you didn't pay the $4000, but still the dealership's just horrible. They better make sure the car's coming from Europe (i.e Germany), and not from their East London S.Africa plant.

$1k for our order.

I put $1000 deposit as well and my car(not yet) is arriving later this week or early next week. However I want to back out and re-consider my purchase. I'm leasing and this is not a good time to lease for a new C-Class. So either I will wait or even getting other car like IS250 or 3er(much better deal at this time). I didn't ask stealer it's a refundable or not when I ordered. If they refuse my money back, what should I do? I want to know before I request them.

Well here are the all the specs that I remember off hand.

Obsidian black, c300 4 matic luxury, gray/black leather interior, ipod integration, panorama sunroof, P2, multimedia package, illuminated door sills, sports grill conversion kit (which is dealer installed later.)

He made it seem like they wouldn't be able to sell a car with all those options should we choose to not take the deal. I do hope the car is indeed coming from directly from Germany now that you mention it.

Thumbs up Deposit

I ordered mine out of state and they only made me put down $500. I did only order the C350 with Multi media, so nothing exotic at all.

Miami...

My deposit was only $500 and fully refundable even though my car was special ordered as follows:

C350
Mars Red / Black MB-Tex
P2
MM
Panorama Sunroof
18" AMGs
iPod Integration

Also, the sales guy said that we would negotiate the price upon arrival as discounts may be applicable as well as the fact that my dad just bought a C230 from them in May. I wonder what kind of discounts will be possible? My car should be here mid-October.

A bit of a discount would be nice....one shining light in having to wait so long for the car to get here.

By law (and this is from my dealer), they are required to give you your deposit back as long as you did not take possession of the car (drove it home).

The same thing applies even if you bought the car and went through all the paperwork (and shook the dealer's hand a million times). As long as you did not take possession of the car (drove it out of the lot after the sale), you can get your money back.

I also considered the IS250 and the 3 series BMW. I really like the exterior of the IS250, but when you punch the gas it seemed a bit underpowered and didn't take bumps at higher speeds very well. Also, my local dealer loads them up with about $10K in options. The 3 series BMW has plenty of power, but I found it noisy, harsh riding and that front end has been around for too long. Again, dealer (different one this time) load up these cars with about $10K in options.

Hope this helps.
