Hi, you have 3 PCMCIA adaptors, could you let me know what brand adaptors you have? I have one that I bought from eBay but unfortunately the seller tells me it support only up to 8GB SDHC and not 16GB. I'm looking for a PCMCIA adaptor that can support 16GB SDHC card.
If anyone else can help me with, grealy appreciated!

Buy the correct on of the SD adapters (the SD HC capable) or a Sandisk CF adapter and you are safe (there are others but these two at least are good for sure).

I just got my PCMCIA adapter in, and it works with my 1gb and 4gb CF cards...
The 1gb card is : SanDisk Ultra II
The 4gb card is : SanDisk Extreme III 30 MB/S
That being said, aren't all 4gb plus CF cards SDHC??? Therefore, how large of a memory card can I buy? Any recommendations on high sized cards for cheap?
Any help is appreciated.

that would work.
but if you went with an SD card, you could've gotten 3 16gb cards for ~$11 each (or ~$8 with Bing cashback). -link

Another question, is the MB adapter a multi-standard adapter or does it only support SD (HC) cards?

VIC, can you find out if there has been an another MB adapter (with another MB part number) in the past? I tend to remember an old post claiming the MB adapter did not support SD HC cards. The explanation could be that their current adapter works but the first version did not, or then it was a user mistake. At least it is good to know that the current MB adapter is a safe purchase also for those who want to use SD HC cards.
Another question, is the MB adapter a multi-standard adapter or does it only support SD (HC) cards?

The US adapter is numbered B67823974 while the ECE has B67823976
However they look exactly the same and the descibing text is identical:
"Only in conjunction with COMAND APS, Code 527 or Code 512. Supports MP3, WMA and AAC files. Memory card (B6 782 3973) not included with PCMCIA multi-card reader. The following memory cards are supported: SD, MMC, HS MMC, DV-RS-MMC, MS, MS-Pro, HS-MS-MG-Pro, HS-MS-Pro, MS Select, MS Duo, Ms-Pro Duo, X-card, C-Flash*, T-Flash*, Mini-SD*, RS-MMC*, MS-MG*, MS-MP Pro*, MS-Duo-MG*, MS ROM* (*additional adapter required - not included)"
What could possibly be the difference between these adapters?

I can see that there actually is a specific adapter for the US market ![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)

PCMCIA - SDHC
I am the person that originally posted the info almost two years ago.
Still works fine.
I did a search for "pcmcia sdhc" and found quite a few sites that sell the adapter for under $30.00 So they are still available
The only reason i suggested sdhc in the first place was most laptops have a sd slot and most sdhc cards come with a usb adapter.
You can also use this same set-up to transfer your contacts to the phonebook.

Another issue is that since PCMCIA is a rather relatively older interface and has two different versions (16bit and 32bit). I'm not sure if the MB MM system would be able to handle the newer and faster 32bit interface but I'm thinking that it would be safe to just purchase a 16bit one. From previous reports, others have addressed that the Viking 5-in-1 PCMCIA 32bit adapter hasn't worked for them. The only logical assumption that I could make from this is that the MB MM doesn't support 32bit. If anyone has tried and had a 32bit PCMCIA adapter work, please post a link of that make/model.
See post #19 in this thread - 16bit

just buy a 16bit adapter. the COMMAND unit is extremely quick in loading the music anyway.
i bought a $20 adapter from Ebay (buyer: adapterbest) and it's worked perfect on my 8gb sdhc card.
also, in my tests, the loading speed between an old generic (class 1?) 2gb SD card and my Sandisk class 6 8gb SDHC was very negligible; if even noticeable. so for those thinking they need a class 6 or faster card, skip it and just go with a cheaper class 2/4 card and save the class 6 for your camera/camcorder.

I went to MB dealer here in Toronto, Canada and bought PCMCIA adapter the price is little high $69.99 part #B67823974 and I can confirm that the Mercedes Benz adapter works fine with SDHC cards, I have 4GB Sandisk and 8GB Sandisk cards of different speeds and they all work.
Here is the pictures:
Thanks Vic

Forget the pcmcia card this is the way to go
i have burned some 500-600 songs per dvd and sorted them into folders and sub folders and comand will read all this.
I have six dvd's with mp3's on them and now i dont have to look for cd's at all.
also anytime i add more music i just burn another dvd.

re: burning onto dvd instead
If you burn it onto a dvd instead, does it still display the name on the screen? If I don't have P1 but have MM, I still have the dvd player right? I know I have the 6-CD changer. Any other use of the DVD player other than watching movies while parked? Waiting a couple months for my '10 to come in right now.

Yes, the DVD player also reads DVD-Audio discs. The sound difference between MP3's and CD's in the upgraded HK sound system is amazing. I highly recommend getting a DVD-Audio disc and trying it out.

I couldn't find anywhere in the UK or that would deliver in the UK, with the Sandisk 6in1 card adaptor in stock, so have ordered a compactFlash adaptor from:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SANDISK-COMP...0868139&sr=8-1
and I would pair it with a 8gb card from here http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159043
after I've tried out that the adaptor works with a 1gb card I have lying around.
I'll update how I get on once it arrives.

So I'm buying this because I'm totally burnt out on burning DVDs and forgetting an album or my player deciding my disc is unreadable and quitting playing it until I eject it and stick it back in. Playing with your radio is not something you want to do at 130MPH on the autobahn.
After reading through this thread, I've gleamed that you need a PCMCIA type I or II card for this to work, and everyone seems to be looking for the 6-1 SDHC reader that seems to be relatively unavailable, so here's the solution I've devised:
PCMCIA Type II adapter for Compact Flash type I or II
32GB Compact Flash Type I High Speed (18MB/sec)
I think it's a pretty decent solution for $105
I was pretty tempted to buy their industrial flash chip which was $100 more for 16GB, but offers an operating temperature of -40 to 185F (85C), but I haven't seen anyone complaining about their flash chips frying out from the heat so I'm not sure it's necessary.
I'll post to confirm it works when it arrives.

$5 solution for SDHC cards or CF Cards

Then again, 32 GB / 4,000 tracks is only 8.2 MB per track. Anyone know if there is a maximum bit rate?

any songs over 4,000 doesn't get read/registered. but it'll be near random as which songs are omitted.
320 is the maximum bit rate.
there's also a 255 song limit per folder.
