Just one more question....
The MM card slot in the C300...is it compatible with a type 1 adapter/reader or type 2 or both?
There are many adapters out there that I've found. I've been doing extensive research, and I can post the list of sites that carry the adapters if anyone would like.
I've found adapters for Type I CFl Card to Type I PCMCIA PC Card, and I've found adapters for Type I CF Card to Type II PCMCIA PC Card. And I've also found an adapter that takes both Type I & Type II CF Card to Type II PCMCIA PC Card.
I already have a Transcend 8GB Type 1 CF card, and before I go buying another reader/adapter, I want to make sure I get the right one this time.
Thanks for any help.

The adapter PCMCIA CF can be either Type 1 or type 2 or both as well. the PCMCIA slot in the car accpets both Type 1 or Type 2 CF PCMCIA card adapters.
Post the list , I can tell you for sure which one you can use.
I am using CF PCMCIA adapter that accepts both Type 1 and Type 2 CF mem cards. I bought a Sandisk Ultra II CF card 4GB Type 1 memory card.

But this will look really awefull when pluggeg in. And also it will stick outof the slot and not to mention when you put the USB sticks in that will make it worst.

The adapters for CF cards are mostly both Type 1 and Type 2 compatible. So you can either buy a type 1 CF memory card or Type 2 CF memory card.

I'd rather not go on speculation or what someone "thinks" might work, as I have already proven myself and other knowledgeable MB people wrong through costly misguidance. Thanks.

I just ordered the one from your Amazon link (needed to fix the double http:// in your link) and also ordered the SanDisk Ultra II 8GB Type 1 card - both from their vendor Blue Proton. So next week I should have an answer on that product.

Hi,
Bought on Ebay 4gb SDHC.
5-1 card reader. No Worky. But works with a standard SD card.
Bought a PCMCIA SM MS PRO SD SDHC CARD READER ADAPTER LAPTOP PC
from Adapeter Best from Hong Kong - Reader looks dodgy but work's like a dream. Nice and fast with SDHC.
See attached Picture.
Happy days
Marty
Below Works - next Photo don't on SDHC but fine on SD.

Update:
I bought the SanDisk SDDR-64-768 Compact Flash "Ultra" PC Card Adapter
and
SanDisk "Ultra II" 8GB Compact Flash Card
(I got both on Amazon from Blue Proton but it looks like there are cheaper vendors on Amazon currently)
Verdict? Works great. Very fast transfer of songs to the CF card when on my computer. Instant recognition when put in the PC Card and inserted in car. I put my songs in folders and it is a dream to find songs. Who needs an Ipod when you have this!!!

I bought this converter from ebay, item arrived fast and works great when you combine it with an sdhc card which I got from buy.com on sale for $25 a few weeks back. Here is the link...

Hope this helps out fellow member who have been driven crazy with this whole card reader solution. Finally this is over...lol...feel free to contact me with any questions. And BTW I am not affiliated with them at all.

I finally got my items, and loaded music for a trial run. I used both mp3 and mp4 formats. Both worked perfectly, and speed was no issue.
Below is the exact adapter and card that I used, and the site that I got them from.

Those that have the MM Package,
You can use the new "SD-HC" format
HC- High Capacity. I purchased a sandisk 6-1 card reader $15-
(make sure it can read SDHC) and also a 4gb SDHC (on sale at CC for $49-)
and the head unit can read it no problem. Hols about 1000 songs in mp3 format and about 1200-1400 in wma format. It's also very fast.

My method (8gb CF to PCMCIA) cost me a total of $41, including shipping, for both the card and the adapter. And I've got double the space on the 8gb card. After weeks and weeks of extensive research on this topic, I truly believe that this is a very affordable, most hassle-free method that has a plentiful inventory out there.

spectraphysics - stealtheo's post was from Sept 2007 so memory prices were higher then. We all wish we could have bought the San Disk 6 in 1 SDHC version card for $15 like he did, but they are nowhere to be found.
Currently, CF cards and readers seem to be the most goof-proof way to go

Sorry to revive this thread but maybe some of you guys can help me out. I have a 16Gb SDHC card with approx 13Gb of music in it. It is recognised by COMAND and it will play all the files up to about the 12Gb limit with no problems but will not list anything beyond that. The card will play well on my laptop so the card is not at fault. I have bought three different PCMCIA adaptors and all have the same issue. I have even determined that it will play up to the 297th folder (someone on this thread mentioned that there might be a 255 folder limit). I am stumped. Could it be that that is the COMAND limit? Any of you have a 16Gb card? And if so do you have the same problem?
Appreciate any answers you can give me.

There is a limit for the total number of files (songs), you may have reached that. The limit was mentioned here, perhaps on the manual too.
I have a 16GB Compact flash card but don't have it filled to 12GB. And I'm using it on a W221, the limits may not be the same (but W204 should do at least the same as it is a later model).

The 32 GB Compact Flash is the largest memory card I've seen so far and several members have reported it working. On the other hand if the max number of titles can already be handled by a 16 GB card, I don't see a reason for selecting a bigger card. 16 GB SD HC cards are not really expensive either, pretty much a matter of taste which one to pick up then.

The bottom line is that COMAND will only see 255 folders! You were right Diesel Benz.

Sorry for reviving the topic but this is something that I had just recently been trying to implement for my car. I'm getting sick of burning new CDs all the time and need a better way. I do have the ridiculous iPod integration kit ($375) but I don't have an iPod, lol.
Anyways, googling has led me to believe there are two versions of SanDisk 6-in-1 PCMCIA adapters (SDHC support and non-SDHC). The non-SDHC support is quite expensive ($80-$100) and can be found on Amazon. The SDHC support is nowhere to be found but I know it used to exist because I found an image of it. You can look at the images attached and discern which ones are SDHC and non-SDHC. If someone has a link where SDHC support is in stock to buy and could post a link, that would be great.
Another issue is that since PCMCIA is a rather relatively older interface and has two different versions (16bit and 32bit). I'm not sure if the MB MM system would be able to handle the newer and faster 32bit interface but I'm thinking that it would be safe to just purchase a 16bit one. From previous reports, others have addressed that the Viking 5-in-1 PCMCIA 32bit adapter hasn't worked for them. The only logical assumption that I could make from this is that the MB MM doesn't support 32bit. If anyone has tried and had a 32bit PCMCIA adapter work, please post a link of that make/model.
Looking at it from a cost perspective. SDHC seems to be cheaper than going with the alternative Compact Flash (CF) method.
SDHC method
PCMCIA adapter supporting SDHC (about $20 on eBay)
16GB SDHC flash memory card (about $15-$20 on eBay)
CF method
PCMCIA adapter supporting CF (about $10 anywhere)
16GB CF memory card (about $50-$100 on eBay)
Basically, I went with the SDHC method ($35 total) on eBay and will report later whether it works.

Anyone know if the Comand unit recognizes a 16 or 32gb memory card?
I read through my training litterature the other day and it said that using memory cards over 4gb could cause stability issues..
