Raven, thanks for that info! I'll try it when my car arrives next week.

Saks- that card is a SDHC SD memory card. It is a good buy but it does me no good. I would need a PCMCIA memory reader that accepts a SDHC SD card - which is as rare as hen's teeth. I'm looking for one if anyone has a clue where to find one.

Ok here what I read from the manual.

The MM Audio system has PCMCIA slot which accepts type 1 or type 11 (two) PCMCIA cards.

Now PCMCIA cards can be a flash drive of lets 120GB or a card adaptor or a network card etc etc

Its not necessary you have to by one Sandisk make PCMCIA card.

You can buy any PCMCIA PC card adoptor Type 1 or 11 (two) which accepts the flash memory MC, SM , SD , SDHC , MS or MSPRO cards etc. There are many.

The memory card type is not the problem. PCMCIA card should Type 1 or 11 in order to be used in the car. Thats what the manual says.

I am going to try it this weekend and will let you guys know if its only Sandisk 6 in 1 we need or we can use any PCMCIA PC card adaptor.

Going to try

Much easier said than done. Look for the adapter that specifically says SDHC on the label - see http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...da72f010.L.jpg

It looks like a compact flash reader is the only device currently available. Can the car read anything bigger than 8GB CF cards?

My combination which I posted above will not work.

The card reader I mentioned my my previous post is Compact Flash adapter for compact flash type I cards only. Which are no bigger then I think 2GB

So for 4GB CF memory cards which are type II , one would need a CF card reader that supports type II CF memory cards.

I searched almost 7 shops now and could not find any type of PCMCIA card reader. ( Netherlands )

I even rang MB and they said yes there is one from MB as well but its not available now. Or in other words they could not order it.

Is there an online link where I can buy either 6 in 1 with SDHC or compact flash card reader which support type II CF cards?

Im not sure if the sandisk is the only that you can use but it seems like everyone that has the sandisk one is working. I bought the Optex one from bestbuy and tried everything, did not get it to work. The only place i can find the sandisk card is on amazon and its on backorder...

If its PCMCIA Type II then it should work. You need to watch which memory card it can support.

If it supports SD and not SDHC and you use SDHC in it , This will cause problem. If it supports only compact flash TYPE I then you can not use compact flash Type II or III in it.

Make sure you read which memory cards it supports and then use those specific memory cards only.

Sandisk is not the only one you can use. My problem is I can not even find any other make card reader in netherlands so far. I have tried many 6 -7 shops so far. still looking.

if anyone know the link to order the PCMCIA PC card adapter which supports SDHC please post.

Oh , I was looking at this as well. Then I read a negative review about it does not support SDHC and the advertizement was flase. but this could be user fault not the seller fault. Its not that expensive so yah worth a try. BTW i found the 5 in 1 which supports SDHC . Do not know the make as my brother found it and will parcel it to me. Once I check it out and if it works I will post you guys here the specs.

I have gone through the grueling process as well. And had a serious tech geek explain the whole thing to me. SO I'll pass it all along

I bought the sandisk 6 in 1, model number SDAD-67-A10, AND a sandisk 8GB sdhc card. THIS WILL NOT WORK.

SDHC cards can only be read by SDHC capable readers. And you have to use SDHC in the MM. SO this leaves few options. The best (efficient and readily available) option is:

An SDHC 8GB card at Amazon.com for a little over $20.

and...

A Sandisk Expresscard reader (capable of SDHC) at Buy.com for $24.

End of Story.

Um ... not quite. You can use a non-SDHC reader with an SD card. While it's limited to 1 or 2 GB, it does work. That's what I'm using in mine.

Sure you have to reload the music now and again, but no problem!

Not quite from what I understand.

The MM will read plain SD cards up to 2 gb if placed in any SD or SDHC compatible PCMCIA reader

Your recommendation of an SDHC Express Card from Best Buy may work if you can find a compatible Expresscard to PCMCIA adapter - but then you are daisy chaining 3 cards! Expresscard form factor is not the same as PCMCIA.

I've wasted so much money now with returning readers that don't work. I can't find an SDHC PCMCIA reader anywhere. Google....Yahoo....Amazon...Buy.com....nothing. Even my dealership has no idea what to do.

I've read through all of these threads and seen what people are going to TRY to use, and THINK will work (including myself), but does anyone have any hard proof of a configuration of 8 GB SDHC that works?

Feel for you NYmb, going through all this is simply a waste of time and must be a PITA... Is there any reason why you haven't tried the PCMCIA CF route instead? I don't think I've seen any complaints thus far with the CF adaptor (works for me, 4 and 8 Gig cards)...

Just my 2c

That's the crappy thing... Instead of the SD to PCMCIA adaptor you've been messing, it's essentially the same thing, but for CF Cards instead.

Just found this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-SDDR-6.../dp/B00006B9QM

After that, all you need are CF Cards (like the ones used in Digital Cameras (Mainly SLRs these days)... As I said, works fine with my 4/8Gig Cards.

Wish you luck!

So all I need is to buy this Sandisk CF adapter that you linked above, and stick one of these CF Cards...like this one:http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-...1798896&sr=8-3

...and I'm all set? Does it matter the CF card speed or type or anything fancy like that?

Thanks.

Well, that's pretty much what I've done and it seems to work fine... Anyone else with a CF-PCMCIA Adaptor care to share their experience.

As for Speed, don't think it really matters; PCMCIA Data transfer is kinda slow anyway (relatively), and I've used a variety of crappy 32MB Cards to 8 Gig Cards and all seems well (although I'm currently using 4/8Gig Extreme IV Cards - mainly bc it gives me the flexibility of swapping between my dSLR).

Best of Luck! Let us know how it goes!

I found a IBM CF PCMCIA PC card adaptor from my work ( I work for IBM ) . I used IBM Microdirve type 2 1GB with it and it works like a charm in the car.

So This CF PCMCIA adapter supports CF type 1 and CF type 2. I am now going to get CF type 1 Ultra II 4GB sandisk memory card and will post the results.

Looks like any CF PCMCIA card that supports type 1 or type 2 memory cards will work in the car COMAND.

So forget about getting 6-1 PCMCIA card that supports SDHC memory cards.

Just one more question....

The MM card slot in the C300...is it compatible with a type 1 adapter/reader or type 2 or both?

There are many adapters out there that I've found. I've been doing extensive research, and I can post the list of sites that carry the adapters if anyone would like.

I've found adapters for Type I CFl Card to Type I PCMCIA PC Card, and I've found adapters for Type I CF Card to Type II PCMCIA PC Card. And I've also found an adapter that takes both Type I & Type II CF Card to Type II PCMCIA PC Card.

I already have a Transcend 8GB Type 1 CF card, and before I go buying another reader/adapter, I want to make sure I get the right one this time.

Thanks for any help.
