Question: Why does MB think we Monkeys

In the commerical for the C-Class they state that the door hinges can hold 200lbs of weight. Ummm who sits on there doors and who swings on there doors. I mean come on there are more features to mention about the car than the door weight stats.

I know! It is the most useless piece of information ever. Who sits on the doors of their car?!? Do they expect us to say oooooh that is so cool!

I wonder if the strength of the hinges reflects in any way on the safety if involved in a side collision? Maybe that's the route they are taking.

Funny I have seen salespeople swing on doors before to demo how strong the hinges are.

Haha, funny thing is that most Americans are over 200lbs.

Augh, come on now guys. Its just one of those stats that car manufacturers like to throw out to get people to remember their product. Kinda like the heavier metal that's used in the car and going from 80 to 0 in 4 seconds.

Yeah, the sales guy did that when selling the W203. Then I went to do that on a TSX at Acura down the street and the sales guy freaked

This is a important safety feature for side impacts. This tells how important is safety to MB since they put this data in the commercial.

It is just an illustration meant to show how well built the car is....because they promised us a Mercedes Benz...

I like the commercials, but notice that the only "interior" shot of the car is the MM screen protracting....coincidence?

Suppose you are out at a bar with three of your friends. You all meet 4 attractive young ladies and decide to take the party back to your place. How are you going to get everyone home ? This is where the doors come into play. You sit the four young ladies on the door and drive home (slow and careful; you don't want anyone in the car ending up dateless). Plus the door can be used as a gauging system; if the door breaks while one of these aforementioned young ladies is sitting on it you know she weighs more then 200lbs and someone in the car is wearing their beer googles.

Sorry; its a rough day and I just couldn't resist...

Kids swing on doors all the time...and those fat American kids can easily get to 200 lbs by the looks of some of them.

By the way:

there = hey look over there
they're = they are
their = those are their doors on their car

This post made my day. It may be a bit juvenile, but it is incredibly funny!

mb quality has been for the most part quite *****ty in the last ten years, they're trying to go back to the days when every aspect of their build quality was unquestionable

Has nothing to do with side impacts really, they hinges aren't protecting you the side door beams and airbags are. This was done in response to Mercedes being accused of not building their cars like bank vaults anymore. Mercedes' door hinges have always been strong, I've never seen a door pop off in a moderate to severe crash.

i had an 06 CLS500... door hinges were never an issue.. however the engine stalling, shuddering, and leaping forward at stop lights was a slight problem... Im not sure where they are going w/ this commercial... however i am looking into a C350 now.. i must be a glutton for punishment...

Funny...Today I was trying to explain to someone what car I bought and I referenced the slogan in the commercial. Their first respons was: "Oh...is that the one with the guys sitting on the doors?!?!"

They use the doors as a marketing tool because they sure aren't gonna sell the W204 on looks alone!

May not be the only reason, but I think it has a lot to do with getting people to look further. At least it did for me.

I liked what Slammer111 said. I think they did it just to see the dealers selling other cars freak out when people try it with their cars!
