Wind Noise from Side Mirrors

I've been reading some reviews online and a lot of them are saying that at highway speeds there is a lot of wind noise coming from the side view mirrors. Has anyone experienced this ? When I test drove the car I never made it above 40mph so I could not verify this myself. Thanks in advance...

My car has a terrible buffeting sound above 68 mph and around 70-75. I've put painters tape over the weatherstrip at the right rear door and it stopped to verify it. I'm just ticked I've got to take the time to take it in and deal with the issue. Also the factory instaleld one of the spats at the left rear wheel house backwards, I'm going to make them fix that too.

I've driven the car on a highway at about 85 or so and didn't notice any really audible noise. It does make a bit of sense that it could happen due to the larger mirrors in the W204.

Admittedly though, it was my first time driving a 350 with MM and I spent most of the test drive trying to figure out the MM system and seeing how the car handled, so I doubt I was paying too much attention to ambient noise.

No noticeable wind noise from the mirrors, or any other source, up to at least 90 mph. This is a very quiet car in all respects.

Unhappy W204 Wind Noise

I have recently taken delivery of a 58 c200 that has these larger wing mirrors. The wind noise from what appears to be the mirror is shocking! If only in the test drive i had reached this speed then i would have stayed with a quieter Vauxhall! Has anyone had any joy with MB in this matter? my local garage told me what the probable cause was as soon as he saw the car!!

Not true. Not a sound here at 120KM or above. Music off. the sound I heard was normal for the car at that speed. With closed windows there is no sound made by side view mirrors.

The sound level was infact better (quiter ) than the BMW 3 series that my brother has which is only a few months old.

The only wind noise I have experienced was from the drivers rear door. When Darth went in for the 1000 mile checkup I had the AD fix it no noise since.

whats funny is that at speeds in excess of 40, the tire noise really kicks in. probably downs out the wind noise. haha

We mostly drive with no radio or music and I'm pretty sensitive to annoying sounds.

We don't get wind noise from the mirrors.

I believe my car is a March 2008 build (if that means anything)

I have taken the C350 to Las Vegas, San Diego and around Southern California many times and typically drive from 75-85 mph whenever I can get away with it.

I agree that tire noise is worse than I would like but I believe noise is a part of driving a C class rather than an E or S.

I stepped down from a Jaguar S-Type so there are many things I miss but we don't suffer from wind noise.

The wind noise is noticeable, but nothing that annoys me. The W203 has virtually zero wind noise, however. So the new C is a step down in that department. The radio will drown it out though. I think this is a very quiet car, in fact, our '06 E350 has more road rumble on the freeway than our C300.

It is funny that in a post about this a few weeks back, I had a couple guys trying to convince me that my mirrors were really noisy. As long as I can't here it in the car, I guess it really doesn't matter.

A person who spends a lot of time wearing Ipod earphones at high volume or is shall-we-say a bit older probably has some hearing loss.

I have heard the wind noise but I am Ipod-less.

Angry

A little offended by your "Not True" comment. This problem has been documented in a number of Forums i have visited and has been written about in the UK by Fifth Gear........a motoring magazine on line ! also a little bemused that you say the sound heard was normal for the car at that speed.......I certainly did not expect that "noise" from a car from that price bracket. I have also noted the 09 models have a redesigned wing mirror....WHY?

FWIW, my C220 CDI is not totally silent regarding wind noise at 80+ mph but it is in no way at an irritating, let alone annoying, level. I'd suggest you report your excessive noise to the dealer and ask that they fix it. The large mirrors are may be an obvious suspect, but I'm fairly sure that suspicion is misplaced: my money would be on the door or window seal. The redesigned mirrors first appeared on the BlueEfficiency model and are smaller to reduce frontal areas and hence drag.

crazy but I just had this discussion with my partners today as we took an hour long highway drive today. this car is loud at speeds over 70mph, no doubt. I think it has to do with the mirrors. Also, I have a wind noise coming from the rear passenger side window like a seal this is not tight. I just read 3 other people with the same complaint, weird. I have to bring it in and get fixed it is annoying the hell out of me.

We just picked up an 09 C300, and now that I have it on the highway, I noticed wind noise from the mirrors and or the tires. I'm going to check on the doors, that I hadn't thought about.

But, compared to our lovely 2002 C320, it is indeed LOUDER without question. that car was quiet
