A-Service from the dealer?

Does all the MB owners go back to the dealer to perform the basic oil change?

Everybody should do that at least as long as the car is under warranty.

Changing the oil is very easy in the MB, especially if you spend $70 for the right tools. Many people choose to do it themselves. Takes about 15 minutes once you know what you are doing.

I'll probably do mine myself usually. The dealer can check the car for warranty stuff when I take advantage of the free hand wash.

Oil changes

<<Everybody should do that at least as long as the car is under warranty.>>

As long as records are kept and the correct oil & filter is used, you can change your own oil & filter and your warranty is unaffected. No cheapo oil and no discount oil filters.

I've been changing my own oil for years using my Topsider, sucking it out the dipstick tube just like the dealer does.

I am sure that it is not a big deal to change the oil, but I love to bring my cars in, every 25,000 KM and have the oil changed and all fluids checked.

The MB technicians give the car a quiuck going over as well and I like that.

Further, now be honest, now it is a big deal to get rid of the old oil and filter. I trust taht you don't dump it into the nearest catch basin, because the oil will be running into the closest river.

In summary, I like to bring my cars back to the dealership and the technicians do a wonderful job. I think it is worth the small fee on such a big investment.

Just my idea.

Well, I'm told the oil change interval is now 13K miles, not 15600 but you can go that long if you wish.

Perhaps you can reveal what an oil change costs at your dealer. At mine it's well over $100 and I can refill my own washer tank without help.

Your condescending comment regarding dumping the old oil any old place was unnecessary. After accumulating ten gallons, I take mine to the local recycler (free), about a three mile round trip.

Further, high service costs are one of the big complaints from many owners about maintaining a Mercedes and taking care of small maintenance items lowers those costs significantly.

Of course if one is driving a company or lease car a lot of the maintenance never happens.
