IPOD via AUX port
Have anyone tried to use the aux port to connect to their IPOD? If so, what type of cable did you use and how much function or control does one have?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Looks like a standard 3.5 mini jack. Haven't tried it yet though.
You won't get any kind of control except volume ... it's an aux-in there's no two-way communication with devices through an aux-in.

Yes I am using the Aux in my C350.
Cable dangling all over... definitely ugly but works.
On power issue, you can purchase one of those power charger from ebay for cheap. You can then plug it into the power outlet in your glove box.
in short, it works... even without the MM system... but yeah kinda ugly

I wasn't using my ipod for a while. So I didn't want to shell out $$ for the kit.
I will try out the AUX first and see how that works since I usually listen to a long live rip mp3s and maybe the volume control is good enough for how I am using the IPOD.
Thanks for the replies!

A lot of ground loop noise if the iPod is connected to a cig light charger.
Got a "ground loop isolator" from Radio Shack; the noise was reduced but still audible. Wiring out of the glove box was not pretty either.

for the price of ipod you will get another small screen with little feature and control you ipod that way ? I don't think so, I rather spend 50-60 bucks get the MM package, with the memory card and stuff
seriously 400 bucks + Labor for that thing is not worth it
it just doesn't have good features, just folder to folder and songs to songs , I don't think it let u even see each of the folders

also for me I am chinese, and that thing can't display Chinese
in terms of the noise, turn the ipod to a lower volume, than turn ur car stereo louder, that should do the trick

i use the aux jack with a 3 ft mini jack cable pulled out of the side of the glove box. volume could be a bit louder but other than that i have no complaints. i'll probably get the ipod integration when they come out with a better version of it.

I don't have an iPod. I burn MP3 CDs (organized in folders and genres) and use the stock control knob to go through them. Works very well for me. Totally irrelevant to the discussion, though.
Actually, I lied. I have 3 iPods, but the two video iPods are on loan to others. I still do have my 2nd gen. Shuffle that I only use while running. If I hook that up to the AUX port, would I be able to go through the songs with my stock (non-MM) system, as I would through a normal CD or MP3 CD? That'd be great, since the dinky little thing can stay tucked away in the glove box, never to come out. Actually, I don't even know if I have an AUX port with my non-MM system. I do have a little hole (looks like a standard mini jack) on the side, no cover.
I agree with trial0r though. I'll get an adapter when MB (or 3rd party) releases a better one. Don't like the current one.

If you like to skip around with your music, this will not work with you. You will crash your car as I almost did couple of times until I stop using my Ipod. The battery is no longer holds the charge and I do not have the time to swap it out.

You will not be able to control anything without the ipod integration. You access it via the AUX selection on your music player and that is it. It plays through your IPOD list from where you have it until the end. The AUX connection is inside the glove box next to the 12V plug-in.

Will wait for a better integration kit.

basically, the ipod integration sucks imo. its not remotely as good as you would expect it to be for the price (no display, no headunit controls). in terms of functionality it is as good as the aux jack with the added bonus of charging your ipod.
in terms of use, with either the ipod integration or the aux jack your best bet to avoid crashing is to create a playlist at home, plug it in and just let it play. whether being able to charge your ipod while you do so is a $400 question you need to ask yourself (or $30 if you want to buy the ipod car charger and leave that in your glovebox)

Don't get the IR remotes. There are RF and bluetooth options out there. That way you can close the glove box. You can be creative with where you put the remote on the central console or by the armrest or wherever. There's one controller I've seen that can be attached to the steering wheel as well.
