Point of origin is on your window sticker that came with the car, most dealerships remove it and place it in your glove box. If you don't have it, might check the sticker on the driver side door frame, it will tell you the build date, not sure if it says where its built though, I'm too lazy to go out in the garage and look right now.

I did what chilledbenz recommended: open the driver's side door and on the frame of the car you'll find a sticker with the VIN number. Among other things, the sticker says (on mine) "MFG BY CHRYSLERDAIMLER AG STUTTGART", and below it, "MADE IN GERMANY".
The odd thing is, when I purchased the car, I asked the MB Sales reprezentative where the car was built. Naturally, we both looked at the window sticker that dealership posts with all the features, packages, prices, etc. Oddly enough, the paper had no refference anywhere what country the car was manufactured in.

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
Folks, first it was DaimlerChrysler AG, and federal law requires a Maroni sticker that details major part content and final assembly point.
The name of the company was changed in early October to Daimler AG.
If your car had no Maroni sticker, call the attorney general.

My Audi and VW had W as the first letter on the VIN.
I ordered my W300 4matic on Sept. 25 and was produced on Oct. 16 with a anticipated delivery of end of Nov. W204's of certain engine types and/or options are built in Germany (at least til November).
My NetStar inquiry dated Oct. 25 stated my VIN #.
There are various VIN searches and decoder sites online. If you know your VIN # you should know the country of origin, if you must know
Though it's nice to know that my C was produced in Germany, but I could care less if it is built in South Africa as the build quality is just as good.

You are correct, it is required by law on every new car sold in the US.

http://www.vinguard.org/vin.htm that's another good source.
basically look at the 11th digit and you will know which plant your car came out of.
second to the last post of this thread:http://forum.mercedes-benz-clubs.com...95c1fd4f12ee5e
identifies the plant code. however i don't see one for the SA plant.
i stumbled across this site that breaks down the code too. http://www.answers.com/topic/mercedes-benz-vin-codes

Yes, the key is the plant code.
And I have yet to have one of these VIN decoder sites correctly decode the VIN on our '08 C300 Lux, which starts as WDD....
None of the decoder sites recognizes this as a valid MB code, because up to now, WDB was the start of German MB codes. It's different now, but no one has updated these sites to recognize the new codes.
And yes, there no longer seems to be any reference to country of origin on the Monroney sticker...I just checked ours.
Our car was built in Bremen last July - so far, the best car we've ever had, by the way.
To repeat the plant codes from the Intl site, for ease of reference here:
A-E Sindelfingen
F-H Bremen
J Rastatt
X Graz
T Karmann
M Woking, England (SLR)
As noted above, this source left out the code for the South African plant - I'll see if I can track it down. All right-hand-drive W203s sold worldwide were made in the SA plant, so perhaps someone from the UK or Australia who reads this forum can chime in if they happen to have a W203 C in their history.

Not so. The only model you can say this about for sure is 4matic cars, all 4matic cars are built in Germany. For rear wheel drive cars it was a crap shoot, the first cars were built in Germany until the South Africa plant could take over. So now according to MB all two wheel drive production for the U.S. should be going through South Africa, but its hit or miss really.

My RWD was produced in Germany, but it was built in Oct and the SA plant didn't start getting cranked up in full production mode until Nov. I was at the dealership getting my initial service and actually asked the sales rep if all the cars were still coming from Germany. He said so far, but they don't promise anyone that any new orders will be produced in Germany.
