Winter is coming!! what Winter tire do u prefer?!which 1 is good for heavy snow?
MB Toronto recommends Pirelli SotoZero snowsports 225/45/17 all around. According to MB, these tires will work for both the front and rear staggered wheels. However, last night I found the same specs and ordered the Michelin Pilot PA2's for all 4 rims from Tirerack. $797.56 US including taxes/duties/ and freight to Toronto. $150.00 less than Pirelli's and rated better according to Tirerack's reviews.
I know how but I wouldn't do it. Just press the OK button on the wheel and the warning will go away for a day or two. The sensor has been removed temporarily from my RF wheel and that's what I'm doing until I get around to having it replaced.
You certainly can remove the sensors from your OE wheels but you have to dismount the tires to do it, risking wheel damage, plus the cost of R&Ring and rebalancing. If this is really a problem you may as well buy an additional set of sensors ($$$) which can be bought at a discount.
I will be faced with this same situation soon when I mount winter tires on my OE wheels. I don't know whether I'll buy sensors or not due to Seattle's maybe-it-will, maybe-it-won't snow days.
I will be getting a price quote from Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills CA which is usually about 40% under the local dealers.
One politician objected against the mandatory rule and I couldn't understand why. Then he went on to say that if you make it mandatory, people will drive with winter tires all year long and they are performing poorly in the summer and during rain storms.
Isn't it funny, every time somebody has, what seems to be an excellent idea, a smart guy comes along and thinks hard to circumvent the good original intention. Why can't people think that the lawmakers have their best interest at heart and try to avoid winter collisions.
I have my trunk full of aids during the winter months and I am very helpful when I see a motorist in trouble when they skid off the road. I get out and sometimes all they need is a push to get going.
When I see they have no winter tires on, I make a comment that winter tires would be useful. One man replied, his salesman told him he didn't need any winter tires. I told him to get his salesman to give him a push then and I went into my car and drove away. Smart a....

Jabbed the throttle and was able to hang the tail out a little. As soon as I eased off the gas, the tail came back in-line. Maybe I will try for another storm and decide if it can wait until next year.

BTW, I drove in the rain/ice both yesterday and today. No problems at all. How far North of Toronto are you? I go as far as Steeles/404.
tires are the easy part! you can find them anywhere with multiple brands
but i dunno about everyone else but i seem to have problems finding stock on such a rim (toronto/GTA area)
I've ordered a full set of winters mounted on alloys from Tirerack.com, got a call from them asking me why i didn't order sensors with my order, which they were charging $300. I haven't called them back yet.
The price of sensors is all over the place for the same units. My dealer wants about $90 each while Tire Rack quoted me $70 last week. So, I ordered a set from Caliber Motors for $59 each.
Your problem is that you have to buy from Tire Rack since the sensors are mounted before the tires, obviously. Where the $300 comes from is a question worth asking.
Has anyone in Toronto area ordered from Tirerack and not have to order add'l sensors?
Wait a minute. Hasn't it been established that Canadian cars don't have wheel sensors? So said some post last week or so. Not required there?

(Tire Pressure Sensor is U.S Man idea) Insurance company & tires company bark together !! I HEARD story is talk about he said her tires bad quality got car accident, she said people everytime not keep check tire pressure make the accident, not her business, so court decision set a sensor on tires ,NO Argue for future.
I decided against the Blizzaks because I remember how loosey-goosey they felt on dry pavement on my C320 plus the compound change at 50% wear.
Tiresbyweb.com offers them at $188 each (225/45-17) and even with free shipping they are $136 more for four than Blizzaks but I think I'll buy them anyway.
Unless a local Nokian dealer can come close because mounting is always included in the price.
With a non-4matic, its holding up pretty good, mind you we only had one bad snow fall so far.
Took about a week to deliver from US to Toronto. Here's some pics.

last year in my W203 i used the blizzak tire but with the W204 and the 18"AMG wheel my previous tires would not fit.
got the dunlop wintersport 3D in an 18" same width all the way around and so far son good.
prior to this tire I could not even make it into the garage if snow was on the ground.
got tires from tirerack. had them shipped to the dealer. dealer installed and was out the door for 821.00
no issues with tire sensors or problems at all.
recommend this tire if you are still looking for a set.
Are the sensors really mandatory?
Thanks
Dealership gave me the tire sensors. Don't know if that was an accident or not but I just drove out.
I don't know if they are required or not.
For me I wanted to keep the orginal 18" AMG wheels so did not buy new wheels with tires.
But in winter don't forget change ur snow tire
drive safe Happy New Year
