US doesn't get that model. Look at MBUSA.com for model availability.

I ordered my C220Cdi Elegance in September and could have been driving it by now but for the fact that I spec'd Parameter Steering (as used on the Sport model) and I now have a planned build date of Decade 1 in December.

Basically, the popularity of the Avantgarde or Sport model has caught MB's production planners out and body kits, wheels, and parameter steering components were in very short supply through September and October. At the time I placed my order my dealer had build allocations free for both October and November but the factory refused my spec for all those slots saying "no cars with parameter steering prior to December build".

I suspect this is why your C180 is delayed.

Whereabouts are you in continental Europe? Have you ordered from a low-volume dealer? Is 9th Nov the Production date? If so I wouldn't expect delivery for at least 7-10 days after that from what I've been told.

I ordered a C220 CDI Sport in early August and have a dealer arrival date of 4 December 2007. One of the options I ordered was the 18" AMG wheel option but have been told I now can't have them due to no cars built in November will have them fitted due to supply problems. Not happy !!!

You are not alone on that one....Many in the US have had orders delayed by a month or two because of the 18 inch rims. They are arriving here now though. Perhaps they are cycling those order shortages between the US and Europe (which is where I presume you are).

Your choice, obviously, but depending upon how much you want the 18" wheel option I see four alternatives: i) tell the dealer it's not to spec and tell them to get one to the spec you ordered; or ii) suggest to the dealer that they supply the 18" wheels and tyres post-delivery and swap them over; iii) Come to a suitable financial arrangement with the dealer to compensate you for the down-spec car that you'll take under protest; or iv) meekly accept your fate and take the car as supplied.

Option (i) may require that you cancel the order and perhaps use another dealer for the re-order and I suspect you'd have to fight very hard to get option (ii) to fly. Option (iii) could work, but depends upon them not having another buyer to hand if you back out and (iv) is what the dealer is rather hoping you'll do...

A stern note to MB-UK (I assume that's where you are) wouldn't go amiss either way.

Thanks for the advise, yes i'm in the UK. Up to now i've just excepted that I won't be getting the wheels but may speak to the dealer about swapping the wheels at a later date. I'm already getting a good deal as the car has been discounted by about £2,500 so I kind of think compensation will be out of the window.

I also drive about 30,000 miles a year so my tyre bill will be less!

That's a very good deal if you ask me. How far did you have to twist the salesman's arm for that? And who's the dealer, BTW?

And what you save on not paying for the 18" wheels will buy your first set of tyres, too - so it's not all bad

I used www.new-car-discount.com who provided the original quote with about a 6.5% discount then introduced me to the dealer where I placed the order and have all the contact with. So no real arm twisting. Using Mercedes in Worcester.

I'm ordering a fairly high spec'ed car hence the larger discount, the more you spend the more you save

I understand now -- 6.5% is still pretty good though -- and with the discount worth £2.5k you must have almost every option on that car

Surprisingly no, there are still many more I never went for. Just went for the larger ones such as COMAND, Harmon Kardon, leather, sunroof etc

Sounds like a nice spec. I limited the options on mine to auto, metallic paint, heated front seats, split-fold rear seats and parameter steering. Anyway, we should keep quiet about all the options we have available here, otherwise the Americans will get jealous

They've nothing to be jealous about, wish I could get a spec'ed up C350 for about £24k on the road! We do have some good options thought

I'd love a few extra options like keyless go (memory seats isn't a must for me), but I'm not willing to pay Canadian or European MB prices for that....no jealousy here at all.
