Wife's new C350 w/MM, P2 and Pano - MM review

Picked up the wife's new Black on Black C350 yesterday, ordered on 9/22 (speedy delivery). So far the biggest surprise is how well the MM pkg works, still need to get familiar with working the Navi but using the 6-disc DVD changer is more than we expected (with regards to music). During the order process we were debating on adding the iPod kit ($375) and I'm so glad we held off because the MM pkg is so very intuitive and easy to learn. Yesterday I inserted a CD-R with nearly 700mb of MP3 music situated in organized folders and quickly discovered how nicely it displays all of the folders and files on the MM screen, very easy to navigate thru with the center handrest thingamajig. Well this afternoon I thought how awesome it would be if it were able to do the same with a DVD-Rom (up to 4.7gb). I burned a quick test DVD-R with 1.5gb of music and sure enough it played the DVD and displayed the folders/files in the same fasion as the CD-R. So my advice to anyone planning on getting the MM pkg with their C3xx, pass on the iPod kit cause the MM kit does all that an iPod can do and it does it on $0.20 DVD-Rs. Now if somebody can confirm that they can get a Video iPod to display video through the iPod kit onto the MM screen then I can justify purchasing the kit. BTW, the rest of the car is just SHWEEEEEET but getting thru the break-in is painful.

Thanks for the info Maytag, I may save myself the $300+ and remove it from my build...

On a similar note, I will be getting the MM packages as well. Does the changer play DVD movies? Or is it just the front load player that allows this?

So when you burn the mp3s to a cd and play it in the car, does it list it like a regular playlist? Song titles listed. Or it's in folders by artist (kind of like you would see on your computer) and you have to click on each folder to access the songs.

Yeah...I was thinking about this just the other day as I was making a post about the use of the PCMCIA slot and being able to store music on it. Later, I thought "whats the use!?!?" as I quickly factored in the fact that I can easily store 100 songs (mp3s) on a 4.7GB DVD and I can put 6 of those puppies in the changer, not to mention the fact that the MM drive gives me 4GB more of space to rip. 700 songs should be plenty should I decide to go on that cross country trip!

Try approximately 1000 mp3 songs per 4.7gb DVD, on the weekend I burnt 2022 songs on 2 x 4.7gb DVD's, I came to the same conclusion why would you bother spending $50 - $60 on a PCMCIA adapter & card when you can put approx 6000 songs on 6 DVD's for around $2 and then you have the hard Drive that's a lot of music.
