Is it just the physical handles that are Obsidian? How noticeable is it? I just ordered a standard non-metallic black C350. Hmmm...

Yeah, I went to the dealer and checked out their floor model which is standard black and sure enough, metallic handles. You can't notice it until you put your eyes about 1ft away from the handle, but maybe out in the sunlight it could be more noticeable. Although I doubt anyone would notice it until it's pointed out to them. Anyone other than the owner that is

Same way on my black C300 4Matic. Thought it was kind of strange.

Yep, I just noticed it, too. I wouldn't have even known if I hadn't read it on this thread.

do you think they do this because it would help cover up scratches? that would be my guess.

If they do this to cover up scratches, then my guess is that they have this practice on all their non-metallic black cars, not just the W204. It would be worth checking out and would alleviate my concern that this was a production mistake.

I have to admit that this would drive me crazy. It just does not sound right. I almost got black as it looks so good on this car - kind of glad I didn't, considering that my eyes would zoom in on those door handles every time I approached the car.

My 03 C230 sedan was non-metallic black and it had metallic door handles. You have to look closely to see it and I imaging many people never notice.
