CommanD Flip screen with navigation

I heard the new Nav screen is much better than the older one in clarity , speed and usefulness

I have couple of questions to W204 owners with Nav
1) Can the Nav screen be stored always in Flip UP position ?
2) Can it be programmed to Flip up when starting the car and flip down after shutting down the car ?
3) Is there a split screen to see nav directions and also radio/cd info etc.?
4) What is improved in the new NAv?

Thanks

The new screen stands up from the dash and I don't know if that is an improvement over the S-Class design.

To avoid glare you can tip the screen with a second button.

When you turn the car off the screen folds automatically down. When you start the car it does not come automatically up, because you can set the radio, Nav etc on the dash display and change what you like to do by voice command, no need to have the screen always up.

I find the new design a big improvement, even over the S-Class. With the turning know it is easy to use. It is either that or we are getting use to the rotary button. At first the iDrive on the BMW 7 Series needed a lot of practice.

One complaint i would have is that the on board computer always starts at TRIP I wish if I turned it off under RADIO it should come back with Radio, but I have the same complaint on the S-Class.

I hope this helps you

My Nav screen goes up and down automatically when I turn the car on and off, although it is possible to leave it down.

There is no split screen like you say, but there is during Nav mode where it shows the map on one side and a graphic of the lanes on the other side with the appropriate arrows for which way you should go.

I find that I tend to leave mine in Nav mode and control the stereo and phone features with the voice commands.

This is my first MB Command system so I'm sorry that I can't tell you how else it is improved over the previous versions.

MB tex,
When driving using NAv, do you have go to radio/cd mode to see what station/track that is playing and then come back to nav screen to look at directions ?

Thanks

Yes you do have to go to radio mode on the Nav screen. If you change stations using voice command, the new station will briefly pop up but then go away.

You can also control and view the radio functions on the instrument cluster. There it will show what station you are on (in radio and satellite modes) or the name of the song (in mp3 mode).

Yes if you want to see the directions. You can also show the radio on the Nav screen and the Navi directions on the instrument cluster (or do the opposite). However, if you have route guidance on the audio cues will continue regardless of which screen the navi is showing (unless you are on the phone).

So, if you want to see the Map on the Navi screen, I would suggest just displaying the radio functions on the instrument cluster. Unless I am in an unfamiliar area I prefer the Navi in the instrument cluster. I usually drive around with the Map on because I like the Bird's Eye view and the little arrow driving around town!! It'll probably get old for me eventually and I'll use it only when I need it.

The new nav screen was introduced with the W204 (2008 C-class) models.
