Navigation Announcements Do Not Lower The Stereo's Volume

2008 C350 Sport, 2007 ML320 CDI
That's what my service advisor said. He said to expect a flash update in February / March 2008 that will both update the navigation system street data, as well as some "quirks." He said that the nice thing about our system is that it's easy to make changes that would be very difficult if not impossible in the older systems.

I have found the fix to this issue is a mix between the volume *** on the radio itself and the volume controls on the stearing wheeel.
The *** on the radio will handle the volume level of your Navi and phone voice and the controls on the stearing wheel handle the music.
The trick is to mix the levels on the 2 of them together.
