Just bought New 2008 MB c300, and theres a leak

So, i got my car (2008 MB C300 Sport 4Matic) on friday, and everything has been excellent since this morning. When i took the car out of the garage this morning i notice a giant puddle of dark silver oil. THere was about 3/4 cup full of it.

Is there a leak or what? Should i call the 24 hours roadside assistance or should i check it my self?

Call Service and explain the situation, you don't want to drive the car if it's a major problem.

Ouch, that sucks!

I wouldn definitely call mb roadside asap and if they can't help (probably can't??) then call the dealer right away tomorrow morning (or tonight if they are still open, here in MN, state law prohibits dealers from being open on Sundays)

I sure I'm stating the obvious, but what ever you do, don't drive it! If it is tranny fluid, driving it even a little could cause serious damage.

the description of the color and location sounds like power steering fluid.

Personally I wouldn't drive it.

Can you tell where it's coming from by looking under the hood?

Does it leak while parked and turned off?

If you really need to drive somewhere, maybe start it up and see if the leak starts up again. If not, turn the wheels and see if it pours out, maybe it is the power steering fluid. Press the brakes and see if that causes it to leak, however brake fluid is usually clear if I recall correctly.

dark silver oil
brake fluid is clear
motor oil is brown
transmission is red
coolant could be red, purple or the traditional green
power steering could be clear or red

Its possiable that while prepping your car they didn't get something tight. They check and top off all fluids, so could be anti freeze, power steering fluid, or brake fluid. Did you stick your finger in it and make sure its oily, could just be water from the a/c unit.

Although I had a similar problem with my ML, it didn't leak a large amount, just a drop or two every now and then. Every time I took it in for servicing I would mention it and every time they would say it was fine. Finally I got fed up with the drips and made an appointment specifically for the drips, and they found I had a bad thread in one of the power steering connections and replaced the whole pump.

Top left?

What do you mean, top left? On top of the fender? You cleaned it up and it's leaked some more? Your powers of description are somewhat lacking.

the first time i noticed the leak it was located at the top right wheel,
and then second time top left

the guys came and picked it up today, while iwas at work, they told my son there was a crack in the transfer fluid box or something like that, couldnt understand him, but ill ask again when he comes home.

since the bottom of the car has like a plastic covering, so much oil was leaked that it dripped on both sides of the car.

well they said they needed a specialist to come look at it, so hopefully that will only take a day or so.

VERY interesting. I assume you mean right front wheel. I'm sure they are waiting for a visit from the MBUSA local rep, but this is a warranty repair and at least replacement parts should have been ordered, if required. And you should have a loaner car for however long it takes.

When you find out precisely what caused the leak, please post what the defect was and what was replaced. I for one am dying to know so as to keep an eye on my own car.

ya, it was basically the top right and left wheel where the puddle was found

the dealership said they will take care of it

they didnt give us a spare car to use in the meanwhile
so either that means it will be a fast repair or i dunno
ill make sure i find out exact problem

After trying to decipher exactly what I think he's saying, and since it's a 4-Matic, I'm guessing the tech is talking about the transfer case for the front differential. This would fit the description to a "t"...

May have taken a hit from road debris, though that's not likely because of the undertray....anyway, sounds like the transfer case for the AWD.

K thats exactly what i was saying, haha. i just didnt know how to explain it clearly, but ya thats exactly the problem, when the Mb towing company came, he noticed who ever towed the car before we got it was an idiot because when he opened up the little slit where thecrane goes, he noticed who everdid it did it wrong, because theres like scratches and indents from the crane, and he said who ever was towing the car, probably hit that transfer case and cracked it or something, but ya, when we were in the dealerships shop, they took off the panel and all the power steering fluid just leaked all over the place, so now they need a specialiste to come check it out and replace it.

This could make a great comercial for Mercedes Benz and why you should always read the owners manual. It states in the manual that the car should always be flat bedded, and if you should ever need it towed, the Mercedes Benz Roadside Service is free for the life of the car, no matter if your driving it, or your friend is driving it.

Translation: not warranty/no loaner car. "Specialist coming" means trying to get the first tow guy to pay for a new transfer case.

Why was it towed the first time? Was it dealer traded into where you bought it? If so, the dealership's on the hook (so to speak) for the repair

so correct me if im wrong but if im ever faced ...and im keeping my fingers crossed that i wont have to worry about it ....with someone needing to tow the car i should simply just say NO to anything but a flatbed moving the vehicle ??? TIA
