Replace with lowering springs..void warranty?

I'm considering to buy a set of lowering springs for my car. Does it void the warranty?

Depends on your dealer's service dept. Some will void any warranty work needed on your suspension if you lower the car. Just like any aftermarket electrical mods. They won't take responsibility for any problems. It gives the dealer something to use against you if there's work to be done that they might lose money from. Some dealers won't care since they still get paid by MB to do your warranty work. For my BMW I had to go to specific dealers I knew well to get warranty work done with my aftermarket mods. Other dealers would note it in the system that you had modifications and voided your warranty on the specific area the mod was. BMW even has a big sticker on the ECU that states that and modifications void your warranty. Didn't see one on the MB though.

Technically, it's up to the dealer or manufacturer to prove the modification caused any problems. Example...The car has an electrical issue and the car is lowered, if the dealer/manu decides to void your warranty, it is up to them to prove the lowering caused whatever electrical failure. Now if the car has a shock blow through the tower, or some other suspension related part fails after the car is lowered, then the dealer will have an easier time proving the lowering caused the suspension failure.

Depends entirely on dealer/particular service advisor/how SA is feeling that day.

Personally, I've never had any problems with suspension stuff. But I've had buddies that had problems when they swapped out turbos on their Audi's and one buddy that put a super charger on his BMW. If I were the SA, I wouldn't warranty engine problems either, can't blame them.

PS. If the springs go lower than about 10-15mm I would seriously look at a matched spring/shock combo. I paid the price the hard way by doing just springs and the OE shocks couldn't keep up.

Especially on our seamed freeways. The express lanes on the ship canal bridge made the car float all over the place. And big dips at freeway speeds made the suspension bottom out.

This was on a sport package equipped BMW which had much much stiffer shocks than this car does.

Page 460 from our manual. Interpret it the way you want if it's the part they won't warranty or any damage done to the car.

Dealer won't even notice it. Plus if anything were to go wrong they would need to prove the lowering springs caused the problem. I've taken both cars in and they never say anything about it, just that it looks good

Not immediately anyways...stock shocks are paired with stock springs for a reason. When you're using lowering springs, it puts more stress on those stock shocks which will cause them to wear out prematurely.

Always best to do a pair, springs and shocks so that it matches.
