New Mirrors For 09?

So I'm looking at the SLK board because one poster mentioned a new engine and there sits a picture of the freshened 09 SLK. One thing I notice is the mirrors look familiar, oh yeah I know why, cause they are on the 09 GLK! Why did Benz give the C mirrors that don't follow any of the other cars in the line up? Now they go and change the "corporate" mirrors again, does this mean 09 model C classes will get these mirrors? I will admit I hated the C class mirrors when I first got it, but now their dumbo size is really helpful, but these new mirrors look so slick.

Ya thos mirrors do look clean. But I wonder how they would look in black? It would make sence for the 09's but then again if you look at the c class the mirriors just pushs the whole aggresive look that much further. Big strong and angry mirriors

I doubt it. Look at the current E class? when it got freshened for '07 I think? it's not like any of the w204's cues got carried into the '08 E? The only time I've heard of an automaker freshen or drastically change a design cue in less than a year was domestic brands becasue it drastically affected sales of that product. Even with the (arguably) ungainly mirrors on the C expect a minimum of two-full model years atleast, MB useully goes 3-4 years historically before they so much change more than the color of the body or the numbers on the trunk

new euro regulations for mirror sizes in 2009, so its likely.

more and more, government controls car designs now: - mirrors, front pedestrian impact regulations, enviro regulations affecting paint quality, CO2 regulations affecting engine sizes, etc, etc. The auto industry is slowly being regulated away.

Why would the 08 E get any changes from the 08 C-Class? The E got a facelift before the new C-Class they aren't going to do any revisions after the facelift because of newer model that came after the facelift.

The mirrors on the GLK and SLK do not look similar. The GLK mirrors look similar in size to those found on the W204 C. Unfortunately the SLK's mirrors appear to have grown with the refreshening.

Off topic, but I'm not a big fan of the cut in the front bumper (at least in white). I think it looks like the vehicles was in a collision and a piece of the bumper is missing - that or the space in a hillbilly's front teeth.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not but one thing that's always drawn me to German cars are that you can purchase one in it's first year and drive it 3-4 years before they change anything. It sucks buying a new car and 8-10 months later the car is changed and you have the "old" looking one. But on another stand, why would Mercedes poor any more unnecessary cash into the W204 when there are lots of other now going stale products needing a facelift, updates etc... the W204 is the newest car right now in the lineup. Most manufactures don't likely spend money just to spend it, unless you are Ford. The R-Class needs some love, the E-Class gets a new makeover for '09, the SLK just did the SL does in '09, the GLK is launched, the S-Class could use an update. Again not against technical updates and styling changes but let the new car chill for a minute before it gets a styling revision, it's part of what make German cars timeless.

I was saying more along the lines of being of the same style and not the actual size.

By the way for the other poster that mentioned the E class, when it got refreshed it did get new mirrors, along the same lines as the S and CL. I thought for sure the C would get the same mirrors as well, but we were blessed with the out of the norm mirrors. I will admit I would probably be angry if they changed something that big after one year.

I look at rear view mirrors as a safety feature first and that is why I really like to over sized mirrors. MB always had very small mirrors that is why I liked the ML mirrors when the car came out, at least you can see what is going on around you. If they are safe, but Ugly, I take safe.

I don't like the flame-like shape of the side markers on the mirrors.
I'd rather see a simple line across mirror instead -- picture if you take our mirrors and only put the lens cut out where the actual lights are behind, I think the lens is needlessly large.

Adding more fuel to my fire, here is the CLC, or 2 door C class for 2009. It too has the new corporate mirrors that have been showing up on all new Benz's. I now give the current C sedan until the 2009 model year before it gets these same mirrors.

I heard that '09's will start being produced in May, so I think we will see the change in mirrors occur then to follow the company "look," plus it saves money to produce one type of mirror.

You mean like this?

I happen to like the mirror on my C. I know it's stupid big, and I don't know what it is but I like it, like how I like J-Lo's booty.

I see what you saying, but lets not forget that this car is based off the W203 greenhouse, and the mirrors that came on that car would be grossly dated by 2009. I agree the new corp mirrors look good, but I still doubt we will see them on a C-Class W204 at least for 2-3 years of production or until the first face lift. It would cost MB a tremendous amount to update mirrors and scrap thousands made for less than a full model year

New freshened 09 CLS, just adding more fuel to my fire ha ha. It appears these are the new mirrors for all MB cars and trucks and its just a matter of time before the whole lineup gets them. Its still hard to say what they will do with the C as its still in its first model year, but I don't think they are going to wait 4 years before they put the new mirrors on it, they want to get the whole lineup looking the same pretty fast and it would be wiser to change them sooner than later, that way they only have one model years worth of people mad at them ha ha.

I personally like the new look of the mirrors. I doubt this will be left out in the 09 model. All cars have minor differences from year to year. They wouldn't want one of their newer models looking dated compared to their other models so soon.

I bet it will change for the sport model and remain the same for the luxury model in 09.

Can't say I'm a fan of the new design... I could see them growing on me once I start seeing them on the road. I'm happy with the current ones, they're big but I like the visibility they provide.

Well there it happened, new mirrors on the Bluetec C class. No telling if the mirrors will make it onto the regular models next year or not, could be something to set it apart from the other C class models, but from the looks of the new Benz lineup they will all get these mirrors.
