Where are the 8 speakers? I only count 6.

As the thread title says, where are the other two speakers?

I count what looks like 4 midrange/woofers one in each door and two tweeters one in each front door near the dash. That's only 6. Where are the other 2?

When I change the fader/balance control to the front, I don't believe that there are any speakers in the dash...at least I don't hear any.

What gives?

MB counts co-axis's as 2 speakers. Therefore your grill count will be off. Could be the ones in the back doors are co-axis.

I believe there are 2 in each corner of the dash, one at the center of the dash 1 at each door and one by the sunshade

I'm referring to the 8 speaker system. Is that what you're referring to?

Sunshade?...that thing at the back window? Mine doesn't have one there.

I think your system has something like 12 speakers. Mine has 8 (2 of which are hiding)

for Harman Logic system:

Wish I had a scan of the Harman/Kardon Logic7 system info diagram, but I don't so you'll have to use my words, taken verbatim wherever possible (e.g.: everything but my physical description as to location)

1+2: in each front door, down near knees, is a 168mm metal matrix wide band transducers;

3+4: in each front door, at each side mirror, is a 43mm dome tweeter;

5: at front center dash, behind the nav lcd panel, is a 80mm metal matrix center speaker;

6,7,8+9: in each rear door, at ankles or knees, is both a 43mm dome tweeter and a 168mm metal matrix wide band transducer (same as front, but both in the door now, and seemingly "stacked" like a coax speaker)

10+11: on the parcel shelf, behind the rear seats, one on each side is a 80mm metal matrix surround speaker (same as front center, but two total back there)

12: in the rear, looks like in the headliner (firing down) according to the picture/diagram, but may be on the parcel shelf, is a center-located 200mmx270mm racetrack double voice coil subwoofer.

Electronics: a 450 watt HK DSP Amplifier with discrete logic 7 audio processing synamic equalizing control (DEC) and fully digital, content-protected audio transmission (CTCP) lies in the trunk, on the side, dirver side.

Lol I got lost reading the last poster so I'll try to simplify it for you, because its a bit complicated. If you have the standard system the speakers are as follows.

Front Doors: Two Tweeters in the top corners. Two Woofers in the bottom kick pannels.

Rear Doors: Two Woofers in the bottom kick pannels. Two tweeters in the bottom kick pannels (get a flash light out and shine in you will see the tweeters in front of the Woofers).

*Of note, the center area on the dash that would appear to be a speaker location isn't one in the standard system.

Ha ha thats ok, I had to go do a double look myself. There are spots for tweeters in the rear doors at the top hand corner, but once I shined a light there, there weren't any holes. Location used for the Multi Media package and not for standard radio, so then I shined in the bottom speakers and sure enough, thats where the tweeters are. Why they didn't use the top locations is yet another MB mystery.

Audio System - disappointed?

I was just reading the posts about the 8 speaker mystry. I also could not find the 8 speakers and had just called MB when I found your postings. They want me to bring it in so they can check as I thought 2 were missing. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I have not been satisfied with my standard audio system. I did not opt for the mm package as I thought the sound system would be fine for me - and expected a quality system from MB. Otherwise I would have opted for the MM option.

Is anyone else find the system lacking in clarity and enough bass? If so, what is a remedy for this. I am uneducated in the car audio sound system area. I am going to take it back to MB to see if there is something wrong with my system, but in the event i am told it is fine - what are my options and do I have to have MB do the upgrade?

I previously had a Land Rover LR3 with LR's "standard" harmon-karman system. I am just looking for a comparable sound.

Thanks.

Clarity and bass is an issue in the HK package, but the sound staging and imaging is rather good (the logic processor does wonder).
I suspect the speakers they use is the culprit, 6x9 for bass module?? oh please...

Time.

Its takes about a month for the speakers to shift enough where you start thinking that its not all that bad. At three months, it'll sound pretty good. I boosted my bass and treble early on. I had to turn those down as they're too much now.

Seriously..... I have treble and bass boosted and did that at the onset.

When you say "for the speakers to shift" what do you mean? As i said, i am uneducated in audio systems.

To break in such that they more accurately reproduce the sound intended without distortion.

Therein is the issue. In the LR case you had an upgraded system, HK, as standard whereas in your MB HK is an option.

So, are you saying that in 3 months I will just get used to the sound system and accept it, or is the sound quality really going to change. I have never heard of such thing.

Thanks.

Speakers do need break in period as they are a moving mechanical part, however the shift will not be great, what usually happen is the ear will be the one that adapt to the sound and will find the sound 'acceptable'. Other important thing to note is, it's in a car environment so any change in the sound will be hardly noticeable.

Hardly noticeable...only if you're deaf.

I'm far from deaf. My Dynaudio split play beautifully in my old car, i didn't hear anything drastic from the moment i installed it until i sold it. The only thing that was noticeable is the tweeter, which smooth out a bit and even then i suspect it's my ear who's doing the adjustment. Same story with a Scanspeak + Eton system in my cousin car i helped design, it does not differ in term of accuracy nor sound quality over a period of time.
You will hear it in home environment, that's for sure (my Avantgarde speaker open up nicely after few weeks of playing), but there's too much noise in the car to notice massive difference. Just my opinion, if you do hear the difference, good for you.

With all due respects, you're not relating to the speakers in the 2008 C car. ...and each speaker/manufacturer has its own characteristics that may or may not transfer to other speakers. To presume that these speakers don't improve over time because other speakers that you have experience with didn't isn't a valid assumption.

There is a simple solution as we're obviously not going to agree.

Just give it time and if in two or three months the owner doesn't like what they hear, they can rip it out and put something else there.

On a related matter, some of Sirius radio channels have limited dynamic range probably from compression and as such won't sound nearly as good as a well mastered CD. Try some CDs to see if they don't sound better.

i was wondering does any also have the problem with the back speakers in the back seats, there is one giant speaker in the back split intlo like 3, but no sound comes out when i adjust the sound to come out from the back, only sound comes from the 2 passenger speakers on the doors.
