Smile Canadian W204 owner : Bluetooth Compatable phones

Hi, all Canadian W204 owners! I am still waiting for my C350 4matic, may be by Feb 2008. I am still using my good old Nokia 3100 under Rogers, but every now and then it would quit on me, and worse of all, it doesn't even have Bluetooth. I just ordered a Treo 680 through Rogers (I am an avid Palm user) and hopefully it would be compatable with the W204. I would like to do a survey on the Bluetooth compatability with the W204 Command System. The following is a database that your input would be extremely valuable :-

1. Car model C300/C350
2. Cell provider, eg. Rogers, Telus, etc.
3. Cell phone, brand and model
4. Initiation, ie. whether car can find and connect to phone easily the first time.
5. Connectivity, ie. whether car persistently connect to your phone everytime.
6. Downloadability, ie. Phone book transfer, complete, incomplete, all at once or one contact at a time, or not at all.
7. Complete Compatability, ie, All features match, some features not match, etc.

Thank you guys for sharing!

Canadian Cell Phone

As usual MBC leaves its Canadian owners in the dark.
Even the Canadian dealers lists of compatible phones is based on US service suppliers. The manual in my new E350S4M (4 Matic wagon) refers me to MBUSA.
Best bet is to check the software version on the Bluetooth package. You need handsfree profile 1.0 as a start point.

The MB list is incomplete for sure. I've used a HTC Touch (1st gen) and now at HTC Touch Diamond 2 in my S204 C200 CDI and both work fine (had to do a small tweak on the latter but that took 30 seconds). Neither is listed.

Only issue is having to send over contacts one by one, but that's hardly a big issue as there aren't that many people I would call while driving (and if they're not on the list you can still find them on your phone).

Here's mine:
1. Car model C3504Matic
2. Cell provider Rogers
3. Cell phone, Iphone 3G
4. Initiation, ie. whether car can find and connect to phone easily the first time. Yes, no problem.
5. Connectivity, ie. whether car persistently connect to your phone everytime. Yes, no problem.
6. Downloadability, ie. Phone book transfer, complete, incomplete, all at once or one contact at a time, or not at all. Not At All, at least I can't get it to work !!
7. Complete Compatability, ie, All features match, some features not match, etc. Everything I need it to do, it does, makes a call, ends a call, mutes a call, very clear as well.

My previous phone, an LG Shine Slide was much better at bringing over the address book, it was one at a time, but is was able to do it, unlike the Iphone....

+1. There shouldn't be any problems. This thread is from 2007. Most 2008+ phones have bluetooth versions which should be fully compatible with the MB.

If you're still using a 2007 cell phone, contact me I'll help you move into the future.

You would think so but if you read the manuals (at least the Canuck manuals) Mercedes is quite up front about it. All BT phones will not work with their cars. As noted above you need at least the hands free protocol to be at least 1.0

As noted above, read your manuals all you Canucks. Just because it is BT ready does NOT mean all BT phones will work in MB cars.

I have an iPhone 3g, on Rogers. The carrier should not matter, it's just bluetooth. It works great but getting the phone book over took some work.

What I did was I got my friend with a blackberrry (curve) to back up his contacts, then synced his phone with all of my contacts. The phone interface on my MB will transfer blackberry contacts. Once that was done alll my iphone contacts were set in my car!
