Sirius Subs

FYI for those interested, Sirius lowered the lifetime subscription to $399 from $499. It includes transferring to sub to 3 devices for $75 each time if you end up changing your car or want to transfer it to another device.

Please don't turn this into a XM vs. Sirius thread or the merger will render both companies bankrupt thread. This is for those who are considering activating the radio past the free 6 months.

I did this 2 months into my 6 month free sub. I was able to get them to give me credit for the 6 months (YMMV on this, it took a lot of talking). I ended up paying $371 (incl. tax) for the sub.

Thanks for the Heads-up. I noticed the promo ends 1/31/2008.

they wouldnt credit the 6 months back to me, but i didnt have any tax... so $399.99 total. I opted for the 4 payments, $99.99 today, $100 each month for 3 months after... since there was no charge associated with doing it.

Thanks for the heads up, I was on the fence based on the monthly/yearly price, but saving the $100 for the lifetime makes it make a little more sense. The sat radio is definitely nice for traveling... even with burned mp3s, the command drive, ipod connector, cds, the real radio, and the pcmcia slot.

I agree. That was one of my requirements for the car - it had to have Sirius because my daughter enjoys it so much (as do I). I don't have MM, so clearly, it is even more of a necessity!

I waffled over the fact that there were 4 more free months left on my sub, but it didn't make sense to sacrifice the $100 price reduction for the comped months. I had to call twice before I got a rep that would even allow me to apply the $399 sub at all. Glad it worked out for you.

I've gotten hooked on it as well so the $399 for lifetime is great, even if I change cars the $75 to transfer the sub isn't too bad.

I just called Sirius to try and get the same offer. After a long time on hold, the agent pointed me to the terms and conditions link at bottom, which states that while most subscriptions are transferrable, a LIFETIME car subscription is not.

It is too bad that this is buried, as the offer implies that we can transfer service for $75, for any radio.

FYI, the subscription stays with the car, so when you sell it, the new owner gets the free service.

See point D4:

I am still mulling over whether or not to get it now. . .

Nice catch there. Well, that kinda sucks that it stays with the car, but I don't see their reasoning that a car subscription is any different than another type of receiver. They weren't willing to bend that rule and note it on the account?

I found their customer service to be very inflexible and not willing to bend the rules.

I may roll the dice and call back later.

That sucks. I was considering going with that after my 6 months are up, but not if it stays with the car. I won't have the car 3 years from now.

if you keep the car for 3 years compare with their regular sub fees it's still worth it, $13x36=$468 > $399, that is if you're getting it anyways.

However, my sales talked me into getting a 3-yr Sirius "promotion" when I picked up the car for $323 - and now I hear about this $399 life plan, I was screwed!!

what was I thinking....
