Anyone opt for the Wheel / Tire protection

I am looking at a new C-Class and my dealer is offering wheel and tire replacement for just under $1,000 for 3 years. Does anyone have experience with this?

Seems a little high to me. $1000 could probably replace each of your tires or get you a set of aftermarket rims. If you're considering the 18" AMG rims, then it could be worthwhile if you live in a state with lots of potholes like here in MN. If you're sticking with the 17" rims then if you needed to replace them you could probably find a used one either in a bone yard or on craigslist or something.

Also see what their exclusions are. Sometimes these types of polices have exclusions that reduce their exposure and limit your ability to file a claim. For instance, does the policy cover cosmetics like curb rash?

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
Won't your insurance cover a damaged wheel? The tires should already have road hazard coverage. Do they pro-rate your tires in the event they need replaced? Sounds fishy.

I could imagine bending a wheel and blowing out a tire and the dealer says, "well son, that tire had 15,000 miles on it and you shouldn't have known better, and blah, blah blah...so your $1,000 insurance won't cover that."

Thanks for the replies. I live in the New York Metro area and I am considering 18" AMG rims. This will be my first Benz. Currently have a BMW 325 with 17" rims and sport suspension package. I am happy with the ride quality, but am wondering if 18" rims and Benz sport suspension will be about the same, harsher, or smoother...

Based on several hours of test-driving 3s and Cs with 17- and 18-in packages in similar environments (bad city roads), and a week with a 3 in Europe last Summer, I'd say that ride quality will be about the same between 17-in Bimmer sedan with ZSP and 18-in C in Sport.

IMHO, the 17-in C350 Sport provides an excellent ride/handling compromise -- the 328 is lighter/more direct/more tossable (let's not get started on a 335/328 debate -- both great cars, 335 much faster, but 328 more "playful" on US roads in my book), but your passengers will thank you for not being tossed about.

Indeed, my long test drive of a C350 is one reason why I have not yet decided on changing cars. I like the E92 328 inside and out better and find it more fun in the twisties, but the C350 offers a great compromise -- all the more so for someone driving a lot on bad city roads. Now if they only sold it with memory seats/mirrors/steering wheel and a less thirsty engine -- 2009 MY with memory package and the new 3.5-liter engine, perhaps?

Very possible different cities = different rates for the plan. My Dealer in NYC sells the Tire & Wheel Protection Plan for $795 for four years.

I got the protection for my 18" wheels from my dealer in Upstate NY for $900/4years. Worth it for the 18" wheels but not for the standard 17"
