CUSTOM Illuminated Door Sills

So I have been looking at after-market and OEM illuminated door sills. As I look I always see a flat rectangular piece that has seemingly been machined with MB or AMG on it.

So this is my question: I wonder how hard it would be to have a similar piece machined with a custom logo or message and retro fitted?

Does anyone have a backside picture of the illuminated door sill to share just so I can get a better look?

HMMNNN...

Don't have any pics but the backside is really nothing much. Just some electroluminescent tape similar to this

Do I keep the original sill underneath?

I just had illuminated door sills from ForMyMercedes (Jerry) installed by an installer. I am not sure if he did the right thing. The original plastic sills were not removed. The illuminated metalic sills were stuck on top of the original plastic ones with double sided tapes and they are easily removable because the tapes do not stick well on the plastic factory sill. Also he wired them up such that when any one door is opened, then all four sill will illuminate at the same time. Need your advice out there!

PHS: The aftermarket sills do get placed on top of the original plastic sills with double-sided tape. The wiring was not done correctly. Each sill should be wired to each individual door switch so that only the sill located in the opened door will illuminate. Contact your installer to fix this (then again, you might want to contact someone else since they were't smart enough to figure this out the first time).

Hey ffejalink,

do you know where the door switch is and how to get access to it? thanks.

PHS,

have you had them rewired properly yet?

Sorry, I only have experience installing them on my W203. I did a quick search but was unable to locate specific installation instructions. I don't have access to a W204 at the moment to tell you where the switch is, but it should be on the door jam.

*IF* the door switch is still located on the rear of the door jam, you should be able to remove the rubber stripping, door sill trim and the interior pillar post trim to gain access to the switch wires. You would want to wire the sills into the wire that leads away from the switch (no electrical current when the switch is depressed). This will control the sills so that they only turn on when the door is opened. The other sill wire should be tapped into a wire with a constant power source (always on regardless of door or ignition position).

Custom Illuminating Door Sills

I just had mine done...My installer hooked them up to the courtesy lights so only the sill on the side of the open door will light up..but even if you had yours installed to light up all of them regardless of which door was opened; you wouldnt see the other sills come on cause the other doors would be closed anyways, Right!! Just an observation.
See link to posted thread. to my pics on my custome illuminated door sills...\
