Help! Scuff marks... Scratches! (Midtown Tunnel)

Exactly what the title says... It was past midnight and I was headed back to Queens and I accidently plowed into three dividers in the Midtown Tunnel

Anyways, now I have my entire right side (both front and rear fenders and rear door) filled with scuff marks. Lovely... Anyways does anybody have some suggestions as far as what I can do to remove these. They're not terribly scratched. At first I thought some paint may have been scratched off but it looks more like surface scratches and perhaps paint from the dividers itself.

a quality polish and polisher should take that right out...hopefully all the other scuffs look like the one pictured...cuz if they do, they should buff right out.

Oh no~! hope its not as bad as it looks

Wash your car 1st see if you get rid of the black streaks
using HQ car wax to blend that out.

its a good thing you have a white car.

ouch!!! I feel your pain... I have a white also... Um If the scratch isnt really deep and just a scuff... U can use 3m Rubbing compound.. you can grab some at pep boys, or auto zone. Its like 9 bucks... But be carefull how you use it....

Pour onto a clean cloth or cheese cloth. about the size of a dime. Them rub in a circular motion, but only apply to that spot. rub for a few second this way, try not to press too hard, but apply some pressure.

After the scuff goes away and theres a smile on your face, cuz you fixed your baby, please wax your car or atleast that spot to give it back that shine..

That tunnel can be trick some times.. I prefer the driving on the left side of the tunnel.

I had my fair share of scuffs, brushes, and other cosmetic problems.

Take a clean sneaker and just rub the sole on the scuff marks and it will act like the old days when in middle school you would take the suff marks off the basketball court... you know what im talking about Ya but really all thos look pretty "light" so they should buff out. Paint chips are another story

I dint read the other post.. But... I've had a few of these on my other car... Washing it doesnt help... I've used a lot of products... the only one that works is 3m compound. I tried all that S*it at the auto stores, and after i failed at taking it out, i took it to my friends body shop on monday, and his guy took 3m compound and took out a few scratches in seconds... trust me... I love my car... its the only thing that works.... I keep a bottle in the back of me c300 just to be safe ;-)

I should be a spokesman for 3m... I think thats my mission!

Hope it all good!

Is there a shop you recommend? I'm not too sure if I should be doing this myself considering it is a new car. I think I would want it professionally done... I'll try it tomorrow to see what I get but worse comes to worse I'll have to bring it in to a auto shop.

Sorry to hear this!

I suggest finding a local detailer to have them do the correction. If you don't know of one, you can try posting in the Detailing & Automotive Care forum on this site, or goto autopia.org and post there. It's a good site dedicated to auto care.

Whoever you have do this, make sure they have worked on newer MB because my detailer said the nano-particle clear coats on our cars requires certain products to polish properly.

Best of luck to you!

You can't do any harm with a quality paint polish. It's a 2-minute job and could possibly remove the scratches. Should it not, I would recommend a rubbing compound but that's too abrasive for a complete newbie so just try the polish and if it doesn't work take it to a shop.

Don't worry, those marks can be easily buffed out, it happened to my previous car.

Use a wax polish first, if still no, then try 3m compound, it works wonder.

Any body shop can do that for you as well in a few minutes.

Here's pics of my fender bender, got dinged by a dumb *** driver at slow speed. She hit my driver side rear bumper. Looks like the scuffs are straight through the paint the bumper. My bodyshop guy said it would prob be about $600 to repair.

Don't use compound, you'll end up scratching the clearcoat even more. Pick up a clay bar and some Menzerna nano polish. http://autogeek.net/menzerna-of-germany.html
http://autogeek.net/menzerna-nano-polish.html

Try the clay bar first with some lubricant (soapy water is fine). Then move to the polish if that doesn't work out. Compound is way too harsh for your car unless it's a real beater and you don't really care too much about your paint.

If you're not comfortable with doing it yourself, my friend has a body shop off Queens Blvd and 65th st that can help.

Looking at your pix I would say you will need a DA (buffer) with a quality polish to buff that stuff out but I do think clay bar will do the trick as well. For $15, its worth a try.

its not as bad as it looks..... just don't take it to those drive-through car wash place for a "hand-wax" deal.... really bad.

Clay works magic on cars. Typically, I clay my car twice a year. Springtime, right after the Winter and in the Fall when prepping the car for the winter. It takes off all the imperfections on the car that build up over the course of driving.
