C320 CDI opinions: any ?
In order to make my delivery time more bearable ( 4 months = end of May ), I've decided to find out how the W204 diesel owners out there are doing. Now, I know that the 2 main forums dedicated to the W204 are NA biased but it never hurts to give a try…

So, are you happy with your diesel? Did you had a chance to try the different diesel variants and what pushed you to choose yours ? To all 320 CDI, how is the noise level when the engine's cold ? If possible, how does it compare to the same engine on a E Class ?
Thanks for the feedback.
I've had my C220CDI W204 since mid-January and am very pleased with it. I ruled out the C320CDI on cost grounds - purchase, running and depreciation - but it's a fantastic engine which is very refined and wonderfully punchy. The C220 doesn't have the ultimate refinement of the V6, but it's still very good and for me represented the best compromise of performance and cost. If you haven't organised it already and you've got the chance, I'd strongly advise factory collection rather than dealer delivery of your car. It's undoubtedly the best way to start the ownership experience.
FWIW, there are a couple of UK-centric MB forums where you'll find many more owners of diesel Mercs if you're interested, MB Club and Mercedes-Benz Owners. Both are useful places and quite lively. There are even a few W204 owners on them
Concerning the feedback, I excepted as much. I'll try on the recommended links. Thanks once again.
Oh, concerning the the model choice, I agree that the 220 CDI makes the most sense. However, considering the deal I got together with my will to go against reason this time around
, led me to choose the diesel "beast" instead...
I tried both, and the 320 certainly was a beast. But for normal driving I felt that I probably would notice the difference, and the 220 was certainly more than adequate for me. The other thing I wanted to compare was the smoothness. I was concerned that the 220 might be more rattly being a 4 cylinder (I currently drive a BMW 320d and there is a bit of rattle). To my relief, both engines were very smooth, much smoother than the 320d.
In the end, I didn't want to spend an extra AU$20000 just for the bigger engine. That's why I settled for the 220CDi. I'm convinced this is the right choice for me.
