Possible Problems W/ C350? Squeaking sound
I keep hearing a squeaking sound I think from my right rear wheel? when I slowly start moving... kind of like old brake squeak, but it's happening when the brakes are not engaged.. it only seems to happen when I slowly start to roll forward. Anybody have this problem?
I have read in another post that a similar sound is heard with a very dirty car, and it's due to brake dust build up, and all you have to do is wash it. But this is when they brake. I hear mine doing it when I roll forward without the brakes engaged at all. Any clues? Kind of lazy to take it to the dealer yet, but my A service is due soon..
Also, did anybody else's rear door pins pop out? I'm talking about the little knobs for the locking mechanism. Whenever there is somebody back there and they try to get out, they pull the whole plastic cover off and hand it to me telling me my new mercedes is cheap... haha...

Same problem here. C300 4MATIC.
Like you say, it happens at very low speeds (rolling forward) without the brakes engaged. I love it when I roll to a red light with my 2008 Mercedes making that horrible sound. It sure does bring attention to my car.

I have only noticed the sound on my car when I slowly start to accelerate from a stop... not decel.., but I guess it is indeed similar because the brakes are not engaged...
Have you checked with the dealer about it?

I've got the exact same situation on my C350 as well...started happening around 2500 miles. My noise seems to come and go though...some days I hear nothing and other days it is quite loud. I had previously thought it was only happening on the extremely cold days here, but I think that theory is shot...especially if you're experiencing it in California
Anyway, I told the dealer about it on my first service, but of course it didn't happen to be squeaking on the day I brought it in, so they didn't find any problem and the problem continued. I'm really not sure what could be causing it. I also tried the car wash idea to make sure the brake dust wasn't causing it, but that didn't seem to make much of a difference. Any other ideas?

Man, I thought I was going crazy! Two days ago I heard the same sound AT the car wash (before wash) and was convinced something horrible was wrong. I haven't heard it since, but I've thought about it quite a bit. I've been driving with the radio off to try and duplicate, but I can't. It sound like the brakes are engaging, when they're not.

same here, the sound only comes on when the brakes are engaged. The sound seems to be come and go, it doesnt always happen but i think its becoz of the salt here in Toronto. And i always had weird sound with MB brakes. My last car 05C230SS had the same sound and was never fixed. And my dad's 03E500 had the same problem. I think its a MB thing!

I guess it just started to do this a week ago. I got out and had my drive it around slow and I had thought it was from the front (heard it while parking) but it was the rear, pulling slowly forward w/o brakes applied..same thing.
It has 6000 miles on it..
might be dealer time..for shame

Just a dumb question, but maybe worth asking ...
If it's coming from the rear, and the rear is collecting much more brake dust than the fronts, is there some kind of adjustment that is set wrongly at the factory?
Alternately, is it raining? I recall that the brakes are supposed to be lightly applied whenever the wipers are going. If it's raining, and the brakes are actually applied it might cause this sound.
Well, I'm off to listen with the radio off .......

i hope that i dont get flamed for saying this, so here it is....
is there a possibility that this noise has something to do with the electronic brake assist? i remember when my dad got the e500 back in 2004 there was a recall for this. any info would be helpful.

first aid kit in rear pass trunk cubby?
I too notices some vibration on rear pass side, and when I opened the cubby in the trunk I noticed that's where the first aid kit is. Shoved it in tight next to the body pannel the noise went away.

I see that I am not alone in this... it's not raining here in southern california and no thankfully I did not have to pull off the door panel to put the pin back in. You can pop it right back in its like a snap on design. As for the first aid kit thing, no it's not a vibration, but a loud squealing sound coming most likely from the brakes or something touching one of the moving parts like that wheel, possbily, hopefully not something anywhere near the drivetrain... anybody with the problem going to the dealer soon?

+1 on this squeaking issue. I have heard it on slow acceleration following a complete stop. I was in Manhattan at the time and thought that it had to be the yellow cabs with awful brakes, but no, it was my brand new C class. Go figure. I thought that these awful break squeaking problems only came with the bigger chassis models like the S and CL. My CL squeaks awfully in ALL breaking situations. I am over it. As far as a quick fix for this squeaking problem in the meantime, find some open road, put it in reverse, accelerate and break hard. Do it a few times and the sound will cease for a few days. Good luck guys

Not sure...
I wasn't gonna say this; haven't had the car that long. But I did notice rear breaks making faint scrape sound while backing slowly out of garage. Will know more after 1st inspection.

Dealership Not a Help
Unfortunately the dealer is of no help so far in my quest to figure this out. I got my C300 back in December 2007 and started to hear the squeal around 1000 miles. I took it to the dealer that I got the car from and was pretty much given the cold shoulder - like I was on crack or something. I was told that all MB do this.
To me this seems unacceptable - so I then took it to a different dealership and at least they treated me with some respect. At least they genuinely seemed to want to figure out the problem. Since then I have had the car back to them twice and each time they say they can't reproduce the problem.
The problem is only getting worse - I have about 5000 miles on the car now and I hear it almost everytime I drive it now. It's not only annoying but very embarrassing.
For me the squeal happens when I am moving at very slow speeds - like going through a drive thru or slowly moving through a parking lot. I originally thought it had to do with the day being somewhat cool but I have now been noticing it happen even on hot days.
Not sure what the real reason for this is but I plan on taking it back to the dealer again this week. I'll keep the group updated with anything that I might find.

Hmm that almost sounds spot on... it sounds like the rear brakes are not releasing completely. Any idea on how they fixed it and what was exactly wrong?

C350 Brake Squeak
Why no comments prior to March 25 and subsequent to March 31? Is this Thread still active? I am experiencing the same brake squel-at very low speed with the brake not engaged. Thanks

Anybody know exactly what the dealer did to fix this? I know one person said that they got the caliper replaced... doesn't seem like a fix that the dealer will willingly perform with no hassle..
I have been waiting for my first service to get this problem looked at by the dealer I just hit 10,000 miles so it's coming up soon.. I'll keep posted.
After few months of listening to it, I am pretty sure that it is indeed the rear brakes and it does sound like it is engaging when its not supposed to.

MB is aware of both of the problems that you guys are having troubles with, the noise can usually be fix by having the rear parking park shoes adj.,to tight so the tend to grab and cause the squeak, also in some cases the l/r hub and bearing need to be replaced. The rear door knob coming off, there is a new modified cable and knob which needs to be replace together.

some dealers may not be aware of the problem yet or the miss understood your concern, let them know it is coming from the rear of the car most of the time it is the left rear, then tell them it does it when you just start to drive off after stopping, if they contact MB they will tell them how to fix it.
