These are the figures quoted by Carsy yesterday. Not many more on here got C220.
I am unable to comment yet as I have not been able to drive to much.

Thank you Manchester Merc,I was assured by the MB dealers workshop manager before purchase that as long as I can prove that I have done the servicing ie photos & reciepts for oil & filters , I can service the vehicle & keep my warranty Being of Scots descent & having always done my own servicing , I could not come at $400 + to change the oil & filter. My cost for 6.5 litres of Mobil 1 ESP5w30 = $65 + oil filter $25.
I hope you are enjoying your 220 CDI as much as I am.Achieved 5.6l /100km on a 60km run yesrterday!

No not really tried anything yet.I only picked the car up last week and have subsequently fractured my elbow so unable to drive at the moment.

It's still to cold here just to sit in the car and mess.

In an ideal world you would obtain those sorts of figures. unfortunately we don't use the cars on a rolling road

By the way welcome to the forum.

Do you guys find the power from these engines adequate? If they brought this to the United States, I would really consider one.

Yes the engine is plenty powerfull but the main reason is the pulling power {torque} as well as fuel consumption.

Here's mine:

'quick' driving (not mental driving i hasten to add) town: 30-34mpg
'quick' driving motorway: 38-41mpg

leisurely driving with occasional blast town: 38-43mpg
leisurely driving at 60-75mph on motorway: 45-51mpg

Also bear in mind i do use the tiptronic box as i live in a 'hill' area i.e. selecting 2/3rd for hill and highish gear downhill to hold car so dont have to brake too much at the bottom... actually i realise i do this cause it's fun! more than to save fuel! obviously i dont intend to blow the engine...

There's no clever reason why i have put down a variation, only that these are figures i remember seeing after the same journeys i.e. i make the same journey town and motorway quite often.

And finally, i have around 10k mileage. when i first got the car, it felt really tight...how does that saying go.."tight as a camel's **** in a sandstorm"..
I was quite dissapointed with the mpg to start with, but i guess the parts loosened up and/or i got used to the car.

My mpg numbers are similar to Mr Purple's. I have approx 3,800 miles on the car now and the performance is definitely much more lively than when it was brand new and the fuel economy has improved too. My dealer warned me that it wouldn't achieve anywhere near full performance or economy for at least 2,000 miles and I'd say he was right.

One thing I've noticed is that the fuel economy improves dramatically it you maintain constant speed. Accelerate / brake / accelerate and the economy suffers badly.

In a straight line sprint from a standing start then the C300 petrol will out-drag the C220CDI diesel, but in real world driving where you're using the mid-range performance of the engine the diesel is pretty equal to the performance of the petrol. The big difference is that you'll get somewhere between 40% and 45% more miles out of every gallon from the diesel.

The consumption figure rises noticably when driving in the wet or running the Air con.The windscreen wipers trigger an input to feather the brakes which keep the discs warm for immediate emengency braking.

That's my experience too, for the reasons you mention. Unfortunately, in the UK at this time of year the wipers are almost always on

I'm from Melbourne Australia. Unfortunately I have to wait 2 more months for my 220CDi. When I test-drove it, I drove about 15km, and reset the trip computer once it the engine has warmed up. I drove quite smoothly, about half on back-roads, half on freeway. the computer registered 7.1L/100km which is 39.7mpg (imperial).

I'm looking forward to getting my car and comparing. Just for those who may be interested, I'm currently driving BMW 320d, and with a 50:50 mix of city/freeway driving, I average about 7.0-7.5L/100km.

It will be interesting to see when our Northern American cousins embrace this fuel efficient diesel technology in the present climate of high fuel prices & low economic growth.

I assume you're in great britain and talking imperial gallon. 25mpg is extremely bad (11L/100km). My BMW320d never exceeded 8.5 even when new and in city. I think get it checked!

Just tried a normal CD in mine and the same thing happens. Manual states you can load MP3's & WMA files so I would suggest converting your CD's to MP3's and give that a try. Hopefully that should sort it out.

Yes i am in the UK , sometimes when engine is at idle it tends to hunt if its running out of fuel and also some black smoke from the exhaust, possible egr regulation not quite right but that should bring on engine light with an air flow fault ,poss engine soft update avalible will have to check with MB.
